I noticed a check gauges light and it was the voltage gauge down to 8 I made it home but the car would not start after I made it home all I got was a clicking sound. if charged the battery it will start and run for about 15 mins and then die.

I replaced the battery and alternator but I still have the check gauges light and the car will run for a bit and then die.

the starter is fine the alternator is new the battery is new and still I have the problem.

Update - this morning I started the car and the voltage gauge went up to it normal range about 15 16 volts just for about 30 seconds with no check gauges light, the gauge started falling back down to about 8 volts and I got the check gauges light again and it remains there.

Are the ground cables from the battery snug? Does the alternator have a good ground? Any corrosion on its mating surface?

I will check the grounds tomorrow but the ground on the alternator the only wire from the alternator is the red one with the loop connection and the 4-way female which one is the ground?

I took the car out for a good run and everything seems fine now. The check gauges light is out now and the voltage gauge is back up to 15-16 when the car is running.

Is there a break in period for a new alternator? does it need a good run to get it up to speed? cuz I can't see any other problems, I checked all the ground cables from the battery and the alternator for snugness and corrosion no problems there as well. anyways thanks again to all the good people at the Automotive Forums I don't know what I would do without you!
