has anyone else had the problem of a strange whoomping sound coming from the front of the car. mine has been doing it alot lately and on curves the sound becomes more intense almost turns into a hammering sound. its kinda scary, sounds like the whole car is going to disintegrate into peices. just curious about the charactheristics of the aveo. i remember other people having suspension problems with clicking and such from the suspension but this is different. hit me back yall.

What year? My daughter's '06 was in the shop several times for a "knocking" sound while coming to a stop. First they replaced one or both of the control arms; no effect. Then they turned the rotors; no effect. Then they changed one of the axles; that seems to have taken care of the problem. I say seems because I thought I heard a very light knocking since; we're just keeping a "ear" out for the sound. As a side note, I had what I thought was an unnecessarily difficult time convincing the shop that my daughter's car should have the turned rotors replaced with new rotors. My point was that it was a new vehicle and since they removed something (metal from the rotor) from her car, they should put it back. They finally agreed, but grudgingly. Oh, FWIW, my first front wheel drive car ('82) had a grinding noise while turning (left only). That turned out to be a bad CV joint on the end of one of the drive axles. I would suggest not ignoring the noise.
