I have just bought a 1990 CRX si 5sp with 200K on it. I cannot drive it yet because I havent sold my 1995 Gran Prix. I am a little nervous about going from a car that weighs over 3000lbs to one that barely weighs 2000.
I was also looking for some cheap performance parts I want to make my car a sleeper. I want to pull up next to this guy in town that has all this stuff done to a little 4dr civic and blow his doors off.
Also a friend of mine had a CRX that had the engine gone through and ported and polished and bunch of other crap and he wants $600 for the engine I have no idea on the numbers or anything but I was wondering how hard it is to swap engines? We replaced the engine in the gran prix and it was a bitch but I have heard that the hondas are even harder to work on. Thanks for any info that you guys can give me.

Beeware of the 4 door civics, they are all 11 second cars!!!
:p All right, enought of that bullshit. Ask your friend what engine he has, here is a list of what people usually have
D15B2 (stock DX/LX engine)
SOHC (Single Overhead Cam) ZC
DOHC (Dual Overhead Cam) ZC
D16A6 (Si Engine)
D16Y8 (96-00 Civic EX engine)
B16A
B18A (Integra LS Engine)
B18C1 (Integra GS-R Engine)
B18C5 (Integra Type-R Engine)
And I am sure theres some more, feel free to correct my mistakes on this

I cant get ahold of him but I think it was a B16A6 that was just ran through and had a performance set of pistons and shit installed. What are some basic things that I can do to get some performance for under $100? I want the real deal not dryer hose CAI

there isn't any REAL performance mods you can do for under $100. you can get an intake. but you can't get a header or exhaust.
if it is the b16...it won't just drop into your car. you'll need new motor mounts. you will also need the tranny, axels, shift linkage, ecu, and some other things. if you're not looking to spend any money, that isn't the swap for you. aftermarket parts for the b16 are also more expensive.
if you want an engine that just drops in & is cheap, go with the ZC (dohc non-vtec) or a d16z6/d16y8 (sohc vtec). i think you can get away with the least spent money getting a z6/y8 with a Si ecu + rpm activated switch.

We replaced the engine in the gran prix and it was a bitch but I have heard that the hondas are even harder to work on.
Hondas are the easiest cars to work on that i have ever come across... virtually everything is "take one bolt out and it comes apart". take the front brakes for instance. i changed my pads and rotors and it took all of about 20 minutes total.

I agree. Hondas are beautifully engineered.

Yes Honda is the easiest. My friend has a VW and none of us can figure out how it works.
