Temperature Gauge

im trying to hook up a temperature gauge and ive already got it mounted and ive routed the wire through my firewall but i cant find the connection on the engine block to attach the sensor.
anyone know where i would find it? its a d16a6

The temp switch that turns on your fan is on the back of the engine underneath the intake manifold. It has 2 prongs and plastic cover. I believe it's right above the oil filter. The temp sensor is under the distributor closest to the front of the car if I remember correctly. Why are you hooking up a separate temp gauge? Why didn't you just splice it to the existing temp gauge on the gauge cluster?

the gauge i got isnt electric so i cant splice the wires. i had the gauge so i put it on with a pillar set thing. might as well hook it up. anyways, im at work now but ill check for it when i get home. thanks

The one right by the oil filter would be the oil pressure switch. I hooked mine up on the thermostat housing replacing the sensor there, but that was on a z6, but thermostat housing is where i would check first, it will give you enough room for the sensor in the housing.......atleast i think it was the thermostat housing, lol, it where the one of the hoses connects on the back side of the head.

Mine worked perfectly fine...ofcourse my fans were hooked up to a switch too so that wasn't of any concern. I got alot better reading out of the aftermarket gauge than the factory one.

electric is the only way to go...wait til your temp line burst and you get a wif of that ether...electric is so much cleaner if you ask me

I would have to agree with this guy, it's also less of a hassle to install. The only mechanical gauge I have is my oil Pressure gauge.

Hate to see the inside of your car, or for that matter, you..when that hot oil line busts into your cabin, mine is electric.

Wow, you guys are just completely against mechanical gauges. I trust them over the electrical, no change of shorts. And I haven't had a problem with either of my mechanical gauges(water and oil) and they are under quite a bit of pressure racing all the time. Now I will agree the electric water is less of a hassle, and probably reusable, unlike the mechanicals, which usually break once you got to remove them.

Hahahaha....that only happens when you let incompetent people do your installs. In all the years of using Mechanical gauges I have never ever once had a problem and like Tony I run my cars hard. :)

btw, mechanical gauges are more reliable as long as your not a dumbass...
you shouldnt have any problems with them as long as you run the line through your firewall properly and keep it away from moving parts...

and i dont think the oil pressure gauge acctually runs hot oil into the cabin.

It does, it doesnt circulate the oil but itll get just as hot as the engine.

I don't know, never touched the line on it. Just make sure when you run your line through any metal to use a grommet...can't afford getting a real grommet, find an old water hose and cut it to fit and silicone the thing in, works fine.
