i changed motors from my 92' metro to my 96'. now my computer shows a fault code because the 92' block did not have a crank censor. now it shows check engine. and will not pass emissions testing... how can i overcome this problem?

I Assume that all the original engine wiring for the 96 is still there? If so, the only options I see is to install the 96 Crank balancer/pulley and IF there is a spot to mount the crank position sensor on the 92 block...Do it and hook the CPS Up....OR, You'll need to use your 92 ECM, If the ECM connectors are the same type on the 96 ECM Harness....Bottom line, you'll either have to hook up the CPS Setup or eliminate it from being seen by the ECM by using a ECM that isn't programmed for it. What you need is an ECM Wiring diagram for both the 92 and 96 Model year Geo Metros to compare the 2.

to put the crank angle sensor on you will need to pull the oil pan and the front of the motor and replace the oil pump, the crank angle sensor is built into the oil pump. another thing you could do is get a computer from a 95, it does not have the crank angle sensor so it shouldn't kick out a error code. computer is located behind the glove box, at most you might have to use a wiring harness from the 95 too but it plugs in uder hood so easy to swap. if you don't want to change the oil pump let me know if you want me to try to find you a 95 computer
