I was going uphill and I parked on the side of the street. I put the car in first gear and shut the car off. Before I could put the E-brake on the car began to roll backwards. It didnt just "let go" because it seemed to "catch" but not enough to stop. I thought maybe it was a cylinder compression issue so once I got the car stopped I put it in reverse and it stayed in place. The next morning I started the car and it shook like maybe one of the cylinders wasnt kicking. I let it run for a few seconds and it was fine.
Am I right? Could it be cylinder compression? If it is how might I go about fixing that?

Compression could be the issue. To check it do a compression check on the engine. If the compression is within specs then there is a problem elsewhere. If not then you will need to look for the source of the compression problem. Could be a bad head, bent valve or bad rings, but do the test first before jumping to any conclusions.

ok can i just go to autozone or someplace to get that done or do i have to go to a mechanic?

You can pick up an inexpensive compression tester at most parts stores, doing the acutal test is fairly simple. Remove the spark plugs, thread the tester in one cylinder, crank the motor a few turns, check the reading, remove the gauge and reset it, go to the next plug and repeat. Your compression should be around 160lbs I belive. Good luck, don't forget to plug the coils back in when you are done.

 I wished they'd check the compression :grinyes:
It a bit involved!
But with a manaul and a comprssion gauge and about anyone can do it. THough your readings may very not having done it before.
So you might want to get a mech to check it.
