Is everybody here too young to remember these?

The 510 was a pretty popular car, as an eceonomy transporter and as a fun driver. I had a 1971 station wagon. Drove it everywhere when my family was young. It seems as though the people on this forum are just too young to have ever had the pleasure to drive these early Datsuns.

We probably are too young... but there's lots of stuff about these cars on the web! :)
So, at least we can still see them.

i'm only 18, but the first time i saw one, i fell in love. i would love to have a '72 or so, 2 door. i'd put a newer engine in there, prolly a sr20det from a silvia. maybe a vg30... i dont know, but i love the way the look with panasports on them, not too flashy.

I'm only 18 also, and I love the 510. I almost got one for my first car. There is even the possibility that I'll have a '70-73 2dr in the near future.

I clearly remember loving the 510 even when I was still riding my Big Wheel around the neighbourhood! Great styling and lots of potential to look very aggressive in rally or road race trim.
Here's an old ad that I found on the web.

At 30 years old I have now owned 6 of them, from your basic get around kid car. To my last, a '70 with an L20B. Sold it when I moved to the East Coast. Finding one out here is a hard thing to do, not many clean ones around.
My dad had 26 of them before passing away. That is where I got my love for them.

Yes,
I used to drive 2 of them over almost 10 years. I regret selling them every day. My master plan is to get another one and do a RWD SR20DET swap.
Do anyone know of any "good" websites for any 510's?
Jon

I'm in the final stages of converting a 510 to VG30 power(EFI V6). I won't be doing much work on it until spring, but plan on driving it early next summer. I'll post pics when I'm done.
There are lots of 510 sites out there, and plenty of US cars around still. You should all know that of the remaining cars out there, few are still in stock condition. Most of these cars are already modified, so if anyone has a "Dream 510" in mind, I'm sure it's already been created by someone... and MIGHT be for sale.
Cheers.

Just saw another bluish-purple one zipping around in West L.A. Man, I'd love to have one of these... can take just about every Nissan motor! Funny, every time I see one, it's always tricked out real nice--rarely do I see a stock one.

Well im am in my mid twenties
The way I found them was my first car was a 79 corolla I loved that car and at the time there was some sort of following for these cars. I learned about the 510 and other older japanese imports from mainly pan am nationals. I looked for one for years and i found one three years ago but I couldn't afford it. I recently picked one up and feel in love. The first time I drove it nothing felt better. Some people may say oh no power steering. I think it gives a better feel for the road. Also this car handles like a dream. Lastly before I ramble to much one of my favorite things about the 510 is the fellow 510 nuts are the best. I have had VWs,subarus etc but the 510 guys always seem so nice and willing to give a helping hand and have tons of technical knowledge.

Mind you on the performance numbers above -- as quoted from the website...
"The power figure in the above table was achieved with a cheap, low-volume fuel pump that caused detonation due to lean-out. A good pump might have let the dyno curve (see below) continue at the same rise rate to a power figure of 156kW (208HP) at 6500 RPM. Assuming a 30% loss in the driveline this equates to an estimated flywheel figure of 223kW (297HP)! "
And all that from just 8 psi! Not to mention the guy has/will replace the pump for a 15 psi capable boost!
510 is an awesome car -- anyone able to actually find one on the east coast in good shape should pick it up.

for anyone who's in southern california, there's this little used car place around my school that sells this CLEAN blue five-dime. It's all chromed out and has blue powdercoated rims. don't know how much it's selling for, but i look at it everytime i drive by. haha. I'm only 15 and i really like old school cars and the 510 is one of my favorites. I'm not a die-hard fan, but i think old school datsuns are the coolest.

My brother has a '72 2-door 510. He bought it for $1000. It used to be my dads car and has been through about 2 other people. What is a YG30 out of? Just wondering. And also is the SR20DET Silvia engine a good engine for the 510? And how much do they cost? well thanks!!!

I had a '71 510 and I loved it....I got it because my friend had a '72 2 door and I drove it and fell in love with it.....so when I got the money and found one.....I bought a '71 4 door that already had a L20B and was converted from auto to a datsun 280z 5 speed with posy trac, it still had the b&m auto decal on the back so it was a real sleeper....it was the stock lime green color and needed some body work.....it was lowered on 15in 5 spoke rims....I drove it and loved it so I bought it for $1200 cash.....man was I stoked! This was my first car and I owned it...I was 19.
Well I had to put in storage after the brakes failing and rearending a 84 pontiac firebird....I left in storage in nor cal and moved to Orlando,fl and kind of forgot to pay rent for storage and I think that they probably sold it....sucks ass....I miss her! I will eventually have another one though!!!!

If it's any consolation, they are becoming more available in the East Coast at affordable prices. If you're ever in the hunt for one, let me know what you're looking for and what your budget is. I love my 510!

It is a '72 two door just like yours, only white! he has a nap z 24 in it and this car hauls ass...way faster than mine was....that car is why I wanted a five ten ....only i drove it while it still had a 1600 in it! Thanks though...if I ever need one because something else happens I will let you know.....right now I can't afford anything though!

I owned a 1971 510 2-door coupe. I bought one after my buddy waxed my Toyota Corona coupe back in 1970. It was beautiful with aluminum wheels, powder blue paint with a matching vinyl top and a racing stripe along the splash panel. Even in it's box-stock form, most cars could not keep up with it on twisty roads. Alas, I have only ONE picture of it and it only shows half of it parked.
I remember race car driver John Morton just beating everyone way back then in his Trans-am tricked-out 510 coupe.
For its time, it drove better, cornered better, stopped better and handled better than much I have driven since and that's been 30+ years.
That's why I'm so hot to pick up one of these new-generation econo-hot rods and have some fun again. With its rear-wheel drive and fabulous fully-independent suspension, I could really hang it out there on the ragged edge.....all I had to do was be in the right gear and keep my foot on it.
I'll post my "half-picture" once I get it scanned.
