99 Camaro alarm problem????

Just bought a 99 Camaro that had a factory alarm on it. When I lock it, it honks twice as normal, then 3-4 seconds later it sounds the panic alarm twice. I have read the manual and dont believe that it should be doing this. It does not sound the panic alram again until the next time I lock the car. The alarm is currently set to factory mode three, so I read how in change it in the owners manual but it doesnt seem to want to change.

Perhaps I am interprating the directions wrong, if someone could explain how to change modes or shed some light on the problem I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums Derek,
I had a problem with the alarm just going off for no reason and the shock sensor located in the trunk area by the spare tire was bad. So I unhooked that and no problems. Key-less entry still worked just no shock sensor. Hope that helps.

Thanx I will definately try that, because since I posted this it started doing that once in a while.

PS. The alarm system will still work, just wont enable the shock sensor?

Do you lock it with the keyless entry? When my battery started to go bad my alarm went nuts a few times. Changed the battery in the key fob and it was fine, never did it again.

Try opening up your remote and the cleaning off the circuit board. An old toothbrush works. Usually that happens because you have gunk that has made its way into the remote and its still making the remote think you are pushing buttons.

Yes I lock it with the keyless entry mostly, however I tried locking it with the switch on the door and it does the same thing when I walk away. With two seperate remotes.

Its possible that they are both dirty and in need of batteries, however I would guess its the shock sensor thing that the first reply suggested.

Since I first posted it has went from sounding the panic alarm twice, to sounding it until I lock, unlock or press the panic button again, then repeats the same process. I am just locking the doors manually now and not arming the system. Any other guesses????

Thanks for all the help and ideas.
