Offroad Escort

I have a 95 Escort LX and I'd like to raise it several inches. The car climbs like a cat and it does great on backroads. Everyone I've talked to about raising it has looked at me like I just made a good joke and told me how impossible it is. I have need to go offroad and love my Escort(black paint, black hubcaps, limotint) so i need to solve the problem of clearance or swap it for a truck. Any ideas?

the problem with raising a front wheel drive vehicle is the u joints on the half shafts would not be at the correct angle. i am trying to do the same but have come up short in finding ANYTHING!!! i want to rally up my car, but it is seeming to be quite a project. the onlything i can think is to convert it to awd or rwd and then lift it. dont get a truck RONK ON WITH THE ESCORT!!!
