I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand AM GT and i was wondering if anyone knew which bulb you use to replace the one over to the far right. I think it lights up the right half of the speedometer. Also directions on how to take apart dash.

Thanks,
Mike

THier is more then one buld in the dash clusters.
Most of them are LEDS that cannot be replaced.

If you have lights out check the fuses in both the cabin fuse boxes.

Here is the instructions for the removal of the cluster area.

I cover most everything,
If thier is something else you need let me know!

so a bad fuse can cause only part of the light on the dash to not work. because there is only a small part on the far right near the fuel guage that isnt lit at night.

it could, but as per what you just said I think it is a bulb that can be changed.

Once you remove the 4 screws to the cluster, two up on top and two below on the lower dash area.
You'll have to tilt it funky to get it out and then unplug the wire harness connector.

Also on the 4 screws becarefull not to drop them inside the dash as they can vanish into the twilight zone, well they'll at least get somewhere you cant easily.

Just try not to drop or bang the cluster bad as it can damage. To acess the bulbs I think you have to remove a section in back... I'll see if I have a pic or two

thanks. to me it looks like the bulbs are in sections. like one lights up the left part of the speedometer and another for the right half and another for then fuel guage. i think it's the same as my father's GMC Jimmy because one of his dash light are out and it's for the tach. anyways thanks for the quick help.

okay i made a mistake. the bulb that is out is on the rpm's guage. it's the bulb furthest to the right. so i'm guessing it's the same procedure to remove as stated above.

the light that it out lights up the GRAND AM sign on the rpm's guage. do you think this is an led or a bulb? thnks.

I was thinking the center area's were LEDs but I might be wrong.
I havnt looked at the clusters to closely.

If I have time today, I'll find an extra one I have and take it apart and post some pics

Thier is both inside.
Sometimes it is hard to tell which ones are out until you disassemble the cluster.

99.9% positive that all the center are Leds.
The outter ones, warning lights, are replacable bulbs.
But you could just have a bad connection causing this too.

For the 02 model year, Not sure if this was different for 99 or not, but the warning lights were LED's and the cluster/ signals and highbeam was a regular VERY tiny bulb. SO it's the reverse of what XI said. one would think though to make it all LED, or atleast the ones used most often such as the cluster black lighting, and the signals, but apparently that wasn't the thought process here!

yeah i hope the one that lights up the GRAND AM and the 7 RPM is a regular bulb because i dont wanna solder anything. i won be doing anything for a couple of days though because it's only about 5 degrees out. :shakehead:
