ABS/Trac light on and whining noise under hood while turning.

Ok I'm at my wits end with this one! Maybe someone can help me. While I'm driving the Abs and Trac off light sometimes comes on and off. I aslo notice some whining noise as I turn the steering wheel. Also I feel the Abs system kicks on if I hit a bump or pothole. It feels like when you hit a patch of ice and put your brakes on and the Abs kicks on. I don't understand why this would happen when I hit a bump or pothole.
I've checked both the brake fluid and power steering fluid and both are full. A few months ago I've had Belle Tire replace the front rotors, pads, tie rods and bearings. And I noticed that the problem started maybe a few weeks after. Should I take it back to Belle Tire? What could be causing all of these symptoms? :banghead:

Welcome to AF.
I would recommend getting it scanned with an ABS capable scanner. Sounds like you may have one or more flaky hubs/wheel sensors. What brand bearings were installed? ABS performs an intialization check at startup and when the car is moving up to a certain speed to test the ABS and traction control system. Also, make sure the electrical connectors at each wheel sensor is connected properly.

Yeah thanks I will have it scanned but do you recommend me taking it to the dealer or should Belle Tire have the capable scanner since they did the most recent work on my '01 GTP? As for what brand bearings were installed I have no idea for the receipt does not say, only a part number.

Hopefully the tire shop has a high end type scanner that can detect GM Mark VI ABS system codes and do the wheel sensor speed/output test. The dealer uses a GM Tech II machine which will read out GM ABS codes and properly test wheel sensor output. The only brand hub/bearings I would use are AC Delco, BCA-National or Timken. Good luck.

most likely its your starter thats bad! My car did the same thing with makin the loud noise but only when i turned right and i was accelerating. But the noise didnt happen when the car was in the air. My mechanic thought that it was the wheel hub bearing and he replaced it and it wasnt it, so then he promised me that it was the starter, so he replaced the starter and sure enough it was!
