So here we go… I have a 4 door, 1992 Chevy Cavalier, its got a 2.2 with 124,000 miles. It doesn’t use a drop of oil, and gets OK Gas mileage (about 20 or so to the gal.). the Engine is pretty clean for the year, and have not had any problems with it. the only thing I have had to replace on the whole car was the Exhaust, and that was due more to my Catalytic converter blowing all that shit into my muffler. I had the AC Compressor drained after it was building too much pressure, so I just roll down the windows now. The out side of the car is the un-pretty part. Since 1992 the Wisconsin winters have been beating n it, and the salt has been eating on it. It really isn’t good looking, and there’s rust every where. The paint is a little faded, but if I keep it, ill get the rust fixed, and repaint it. one of those silly ass “Bump Rails” or what ever there called is missing on the passengers side read door, but I would end up ripping them all off if I kept it. The interior isn’t that bad, but I would end up ripping it all out and redoing it all (possibly putting the bucket seats in the back like I have wanted to do since I got the damn car). I want to do a lot to the car, but I don’t know if its worth fixing it up, or just selling it for $500 and buying something new, with no rust and hope I get a car with a good engine in it.

If I kept it I have big plans, inside and out. Fix the rusy, paint, rip the badges off, shave the handles (haha) body kits, new hood, the whole 9 yards out side, and inside is even better, completely new interior, new bucket seats, front abd back, LED lights all around, different dash all together, yea, I got big plans for it, but like I said, is it worth fixing? I don’t see many 92 Cavy’s around here with body kits and that look good, and I always thought it would look nice with all the work done to it, rollin down the road with the under glow, body kits, strobe lights in the head lights, with a blue tint (I like blue.. if you wouldn’t tell).

Idk what to do.. what do you think?

not worth it i.m.o. it would proly cost at least 3k to fix it, going by what you are saying with replacing rust and re-doing paint and all that shiz.....not to mention what you want to do to it. r you going for looks or speed? or a lil bit of both? i would just sell it and get a car with a lil more potential, both speed/looks wise.....oh and 20 mpg might be something to check out, even with how old it is, it shouldnt be that low.... just my 2 cents.

yes, i agree. i would get rid of it and get something else. its not worth it IMO. that will be a long process and no one knows how the finished product will look if it ever does get there. but hey, its all up to you. your car, your time, your life. im just saying if it where me, it would be infront of my house w/ a for sale sign on it right now.

Ok, so Im gunna sell it (when I save up enough to but somethign else). or Maybe ill keep it, as Ill only get $500 for it. So what do you guys think I should go with next as far as a type of car? Stick to a newer Cavy, or go somethign else?

if you are going to get a "newer" cavy, go with an 03+, the ecotec is the only engine worth buying in a cavy. and no, i didnt forget about the z24.......i just like them better for some reason. but you could find a nice integra, accord, eclipse for pretty cheap, and they all have a lot more potential than a cavalier. or if ya wanna stick with a 4 door. nissan sentra se-r type v, wrx, maybe even a grand prix gtp. they can all be found pretty new, low miles, for under 10k. well at least here in arkansas they can. hope that gives ya a couple things to think about. there are PLENTY of cars around all u have to do is find a good one

Yea, so Iv decided to find somethign wtih a little more power, and potential.. That means I gotta stay away from Ebay, Iv been looking there and seen to many BMW's for cheap money, with suposibly nothign wrong with them, and thats too goo to be true.. but off I go to find a car (and possibly a second job..)

ok, so you might like this idea, you might not.. who know... but here it goes..

After looking around for different cars, I have decided on this.. I will take my little 4 banger and do minor mods to it, jsut for the hell of it, (such as, a PVC pipe air intake, its an Auto so it will probbly be WAI, also, I might do some work to the exhaust, remove the Catylitic converter, and convert it to duel exhause (that would probly sound shitty, but all well) add a strut bar, and go sliding around corners, lower it and knock some rust off (by the time I get done with it, and have my other car, this car will look rediculus), all the while saving up money for a new higher performence car.

So any one else know cheap things I can do to my 92 Cavy?? :iceslolan

Quality? haha, after I but my new car, I can blow this thing up for all I care... Ill probly beat the piss out of it then use it for a parts car for the other 3 Cavaliers in my driveway (none of whice are mine by the way, and no one wants to trade.. haha ass holes). So yea, Ill be buying a lot off Ebay so to speak..

Any one have tips on converting to a dual exhaust? I hear they actually sound cool on 4 bangers, and I wouldnt think so with an inline 4...

no, they actually sound awful on 4 cylinders. there isnt near enough flow to even make duals worth it, just a waste of pipe in my opinion, but whatever ya want. sounds good that ur gonna beat the hell outa it, just dont kill it before you get ur "new" car. no upgrades performance wise are cheap, just get an intake, and preferrably single exaust, nitrous is a pretty cheap way to blow something up if ur interested.....especially on a stock motor. u could proly get a bigger throttle body, might help a lil, but other than that most of it will be expensive....good luck finding a car though, there should be a nice ride out there for ya somewhere. hell my best friend found a 98 prelude 5 speed v-tec with 29k miles for only 5 grand, all it needed was a paint job. there are deals out there, u just gotta take your time and look for them.

hmm yea, I know theres tons of good deals out there... my dad bought an 04 Grand am GT with only 12K miles only a few months ago, mint paint, new tires, basically new, no rips inside or anything for only 11K.. blue book is over that... and that was from a GM dealership, so it has a 4 year warrentee on it.. lol

But any how, any one here know if there is somethign Wrong with a BMW for under 10K? I saw a 3-series the other day for only $7,000, looks to be in damn good condition... or should I head to the Beamer fourm and ask?
