run with a G35

well i've been wanting to run a G for a long time now and most of the time the people driving them at least around here are mostly old and or will not race EVER. i've talked to a few people who own them and they seemed to be pretty beefy or so i thought.
well the other night, like the friday before christmas i was out at my girlfriends house hangin out and it was gettin late to so i kissed her goodnight and hopped into the car. so i get onto I-5 and headed toward home. after merging to the left almost instantly bright lights come up behind me FAST so i hop over a lane and a new G35 flies by me at around 100. i thought to myself "this is my chance to see what they are made of" and by the way the guy driving had removed the silencer in his exhaust so it sounded like crap as he flew by and it was louder than all hell, which caused some problems but ill get into that later. as we come around a big long bend he slows down and i speed up a little bit to his right side. traffic is basically none existant by this point so i look over and give the the usual head nod and he does the same and so i pointed my finger ahead of us and smiled :naughty: (this story is already long, just bare with me) so i shift down to fourth and im sittin at around 60ish pretty low in the rpms, and we take off, he ended up bein an auto so it was a decent race, took it up to about 100-110, and he had me pinned at his door. after a quick slow down i yelled to him to get off at an upcoming exit. and he did
down a ways due to traffic we get another chance to run but this time from a dig.(yay for me) so we catch a red light and not too many people around, just what i had hoped, so i bring up the revs and light changes and we both take off, me being manual get a bit of a jump on him and hold it till about half way through second gear around 40ish after which he starts to catch up, slowly he pulls ahead and by the top of third again im at his door. by this time we were doin 70 on surface roads so we shut down and go our separate ways.
both decent races although i thought the G's were way faster than that. the fastsest i've pulled in my car was at the very most a high 14, and thats pushin it. so if anyone has info on them let me know. i'd like to know how well i held up or if the guy just couldn't drive

I'm guessing it was a sedan not coupe? I could see an auto sedan being pretty even with you. Nice runs.

Well IDk it could have been a coupe too. I mean what do the coupes run? low 14s? So I can see an auto being about even with his car.

i've seen a bunch of stock 350z's run at the track, which is pretty much the same car if i'm not mistaken. most of those i've seen go mid to high 14's and some even in the low 15's. i think they look faster than they are.

The 350z should be a fair amount quicker then a G35. I always thought the 350z was a mid to high 13's car and the G35c was in the mid 14s.

Yeah, i've seen some pretty well massaged 350Z's at Speedway, and they definitely don't run 13's stock there. These guys had the typical bolt ons, and for some reason had ducktape around the crevices of their hood and fender well (I guess for parasitic losses due to drag :screwy: ). The fastest one was running 14.0 sec. 1/4 mile time, which I guess is respectable, as stock LS1's run that at that track.
I believe I read that the G35 actually has more aggressive gearing. I'd rather own the G35, as it is actually cheaper, and to me, better looking. They do corner real nice (The 350Z, and i'd assume the G35).
Weird cars, cause the cam they added that improved the car to over 300hp, has lost some low end torque, and now i'm reading that they are getting slower 1/4 mile times for them :p
Anyways, good loss author. Time to keep saving money and get an M3. I've seen the 95 models going for a pretty good price in my area. I'd buy one, if I didn't have the WS6.

The new cars with 306hp are actually new motors all together, they changed a lot, like dual throttle bodies, different internals and such.
The new G35 sedan 6-speed was tested by C&D to do 13.8 @ 104mph I believe, and the earlier version the they tested previously did 14.4 @ 98mph. So, Nissan got power out of it... more than just the 19hp they claim.
I just think the average public driver isn't driving it to it's full potential and/or is having problems hooking up with the few extra ponies.

I can understand why you thought it was me though, i like picking on those g35's and I've had my share of the kills on those.

Never ran a g35, but a friend of mine had a 350z for about a year, back when I was pretty much stock running mid 13s, and he was obviously slower. More like low to mid 14s in my experience.

What type of intake are you running, the stock airbox is surprisingly well-designed and many E36 owners lose power by swapping in a CAI. I'm also surprised you did so well...a G35 is more 328 territiory. Good runs.

well its more or less a knock off but seems to work well and for a college students budget its awsome. and i've acutally run a couple of 328's and hung with them just as if they were a 325 so i dunno, but lately my cars been givin me trouble, the CAT is all clogged and the clutch is about ready to die so no racing for a while
