Tightening the Accelerator cable

There's a post about doing this on a Mazda and it's very easy because there nuts that you can adjust the play in the cable.

Mine has about 2 inches play and this is totally wigging me because I know the throttle body isn't getting enough air and it's snuffing when it should open up.

1992 Eagle Summit Hatch ES 1.5L

I adjusted the idle screw (where the throttle drops back to) which has fixed my very embarassing stalling problem when the engine is cold (put it in reverse and it konks). But can't figure how to tighten this badboy up since BOTH ends of the throttle line are metal stop balls.

isnt there a way to tighten it by loosening the nut that tightens it to the throttle linkage and pulling it tight?

kinda like adjusting the brake cables on a bike.

First of all have you checked it is actually not getting full throttle?
Its easy to do, just stick a brick on the pedal, and take a look at the butterfly.

Then, there is usually a little adjustment nut where the cable is held by a bracket before it attaches to the throttle.
If not, then take a look at the pedal end.
