Revs dropping and rising

anyone know how or why my eclipse GT automatic died on me after i started the car? the revs were rising and dropping sporadically until they dropped to the point that the car shut off....bad start or what?

have you recently messed with the maf sensor?

Or disconnected the battery/battery was dead? If that's the case, the computer is just reseting the idles, it might take a couple starts, or a while of continuous driving to get back to normal. Dirty/clogged fuel filter/injectors/spark plugs might also be a possibility.
