Then maybe Slentrol can help them. The FDA has approved a new diet pill for dogs:http://www.9wsyr.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=07560f6e-c90d-451f-89ec-1c22e6183d31
What's next a doggie version of Viagara?

Not really that suprising to me. When I worked at Home Depot, they had some BBQ sauce made specially for dog food.

That's dumb. Dogs only get fat due to lack of exercise which is the owners fault. If the owner refuses to walk the dog no pill is ever going to help. :disappoin

that's stupid and just another example of why society today sucks

There is no pill for stupid.

Maybe they should find something the lazy owners can take - cyanide perhaps?

also for the record, my dog isn't fat, she was at some point but then we switched her food to diet food and started walking her every day, or almost every day, and surprise, she lost weight and now she's perfectly healthy. she's an 11 year old golden retriever so blaming it on the dog being old doesn't work either, daily walks will help it stay healthy.

My golden runs with me. She slows down at about mile four, but keeps going until the end.

I heard about this on the radio, and had to laugh.

oh my golden/yellow lab is too old to be walking around a lot now. She's got major hip displasia (sp?) and her vision/hearing are starting to go. So she's kind of tubby, but its ok. As longa s she's happy. I think im going to bring her for a short walk now, since the weather is continuing to be teh awesome.

wow, just wow.

Even if the owners are too lazy to go walk their dog at least just go throw the ball for your dog. They can even sit their fat asses in a chair while they do it so they dont overexert themsevles. I have never had a fat dog but that might just be because I actually play with my critters.

I go with the old adage:

If a dog is fat, its owner needs more exercise.

It's not the dog's fault that the owner is over feeding and under exercising. It disgusts me how people expect everything to be taken care of with a pill, without any effort, exertion, thought or action on their part.

give a starving person a fish, he's fed for a day
teach him to fish, he'll be fed for life

Honestly, its embarassing that there are diet pills to begin with. forget dogs, WE need to start getting off our asses. Instead of buying pills, buy a gym membership.

so what's the doggy going to do? get on the stairmaster next to you. forget about the gym memebership, put a leash on the dog and go out for a run. the reason my kids and dogs are in good condition is because they get out and run every day.

That's funny you mention that. I belong to a Yahoo group called Freecycle. They have local groups all over the country. It is a link between members to give away items no longer needed that still are in good condition, to keep them out of landfills,(kind of recycling what you no longer need.) Members can also request items in hopes someone may have it and be willing to part with it. Anyways, I was checking my messages from the group one day last week and came across a post where a member was looking for any unwanted treadmills to "walk their dogs." Apparently, they run a dog rescue group and have a couple of large dogs. They no longer feel safe walking the dogs in the neighborhood and were hoping to get a couple of used treadmills for the dogs so they could walk them that way. I can picture it now...

the only reason that dogs get fat is because we either feed them too much (same reason any living creature gets fat) or exercise them too little (again, this shouldnt be new info). a diet pill for dogs is just an example of how f-ing lazy our culture has become.
look at france, they have very little obesity, but a huge obsession with food.
why dont they have the problem that we do? the portions are kept in control, and the food is for the most part, much healthier.

just get off the couch, take your dog for a walk, and you will do both of you a favor.

So you can look like Ahnie, The Governator of Kalifonia, and you can still have a 100lb Labrador? I don't think you've solved the problem Vinnie. :banghead:

I agree with the general concensus that fat dog = fat owner.

And being in the US for the last couple of weeks and eating out a bit - it's no surprise at all this nation is fat. There is a fucking DIET ad on TV aimed at men that encourages eating Hamburgers, Lasagna, Steak, Desert etc etc. And every buff looking pleb with a "before" shot they show comes with the caption "Results not typical".

Everything is refined, overprocessed and sweetened to the point it isn't even food any more in the interests of "efficiency".:shakehead

lol, I just saw an ad on tv for Bally Fitness Centers where they show someone walking their fat dog, but they themselves are driving in a car holding the leash out the window as they drive slow. That's not too much better than sitting on your duff and not taking the dog for a walk. At lest the dog is getting some exercise. In our area there is a fairgrounds, and one of their large parking lots abut the highway that runs past it. Once in a while as I'm driving past I'll see people "walking",err I mean driving their dogs in the parking lot. On a couple of occasions I've seen people doing the same to horses, that's a sight.

my dad walks my dog every night. his main reason for doing it is he needs an excuse to go out and have a smoke. i walk her when he's not around but i tend to take her ALOT farther than he does. he walks her around the block (probably like 750m or something) but i take her a good 2 kilometers or so. after i walk her she pretty much slumps down and sleeps for the rest of the evening lol.
