Is this the winter or did I up and move to Florida in my sleep? How in the HELL does it approach 70 degrees in a New England January!? And they're saying this warm weather will head into next week.

Sucks to own a skiing operation this year. Is there even such thing as a "moderate" temperature Winter anymore? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely despise those raw, freezing days where your skin cracks from the cold, dry air. But I'm certainly not liking this 70 degree shit either. Where's my snow? Don't WE get a storm? I swear I remember Winters no more than a decade or so ago being, well, more wintery. It seems the last bunch of years have been just plain screwed up. I'm not liking this global warming crap, that's for sure.

I heard on the news, that we are in an El Nino weather pattern, and that's what is causing this winter's lack of winterness in the Northeast. He absolutely proclaimed it was NOT global warming...

He also said that the mild temps would last for the next several months, and probably til Spring. Figures that it's nice now that my driving commute is all of 15 mins... my poor motorcycle is so confused!

Dude, im LOVING this weather. If we don't get any snow up here, I wont be shedding any tears. I despise the cold and snow, I had even planned on moving to the southwest to get out of it... BUT if it keeps up like this, maybe i'll stay!

I'm trying not to complain too much, but 65 dgrees in January is way strange for this area. My heating bill is loving it, however.

I'm kinda leery about what this means for this summer, though. :uhoh:

I go to school in upstate New York, so everyday I don't have to walk 15min to and from class in sub-freezing is a good day. That, and my car likes snow as much as my intestines like Taco Bell.

I do miss skiing, and I am worried about summer too. This last one had a few brutally hot weeks, I don't want them to turn into a few brutal months :2cents:

I'm in CT and I love it right now, 65 degrees. I drive a truck for a living so if the snow is really bad we get parked and I lose money. Works for me, sucks for the snow plow guys!

You're not hearing me cry about this great weather. Sure beats the hell out of the snowy winters I remember back in the mid to late 70's. They are also saying that this nice weather is also being caused by the Atlantic oscillation along with El Nino. The oscillation is in the North Atlantic starting around Greenland. Syracuse has the distinction of being the snowiest major city in the United States but this year we've only received just over 12" of snow, and mostly all of that was in November! There is a competition(Golden Snowball Award) amongst the three cities on the Thruway, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse as to who gets the most snow every year, and we usually win by a "avalanche". This year Buffalo has gotten over 30" so far.I've been loving this warm weather too concerning my heating bill, but our local gas supplier tacks on a surcharge( they call it an 'adjustment' from normal) to the bill when the weather is warmer than normal to make up for lost revenues when people use less gas. THAT SUCKS. Not to worry though. Weather seeems to have a way of evening itself out over time, so I'm sure we will pay dearly for this nice stretch. In fact we might see more lake effect snow later into the season than normal because the Great Lakes are warmer and not freezing over.

It hit 76 today here, I swear yesterday it was at least 80 and humid as hell. I work outside so this warm winter rocks for me. I just wish we could take some of this cold weather that were missing and put some of it in summer.

I honestly don't know how you people up north can handle that cold weather every year. I lived in NJ until I was 19 and there is nothing worse than standing at the school bus stop shivering to death and feeling like my damn back was going to split in half. It makes me appreciate living in SC more when I hear stories about how cold it is in other parts of the country.

Come up to Syracuse. Weather reports are telling us of a big lake effect snowstorm to hit our area starting after midnight. They say it could snow at a rate of 3" an hour by tommorrow morning:eek: Eh, we're used to that. Looks like we might reclaim our "snow king" title after all this season. ( They are forecasting temps in the 40s again by this weekend however.)

Well, back to reality. I knew this was too good to last. Got hit with about 18 inches of snow overnight, kids home today because the schools are closed. It's still snowing outside and those flakes are HUGE. Wish I could find my digital camera and take a few pics and post them here. What's great about living up here is we get four distinct seasons. Whenever they do a poll of residents as to why they like living in this area, one of the top answers is the fact of the four seasons. And a lot of those responses come from people who had moved into the are within the last few years.

See, once I get past clearing snow off the car and scraping ice off the windshield, I really don't mind the snow -- especially when we get hit by a nice big storm on a Friday or something, which means I get toasted with some friends and we throw each other around in the snow all night. Now THAT'S what winter weekends are all about.

What I DON'T like (I think I already mentioned it) is the bitter cold -- the kind that turns ice scraping into ice chiseling, and exposed skin into cracked skin. Especially when it follows a warm day that caused melting -- usually meaning anything hinged on my car is frozen solidly closed.

Rain is the worst. Its pollen season here in Tallahassee so I get to enjoy raging allergies and a nice yellow powder coating on my car each morning. It will be barely worth the effort to wash my car for the next 4 months :shakehead

The best is when it rains at night and then the pollen sets in leaving my car a yellow polkadotted mess

You wanna trade locations:icon16: ?. Here in Syracuse it was below zero in the outlying areas and were still dealing with a thick coating of ice on everything. We've nearly doubled our seasonal snowfall total in just the past week. I'll take the rain and pollen anyday,(and warmth!) I'll be driving down to Florida with my wife and kids in the middle of February to see my wife's grandmother in Largo. I think my wife's afraid I won't want to come back,(seeing I've never been farther south than Maryland and that was over 20 years ago.)

I'm loving this weather. I wish Houston got one solid week of snow fall. If everyone thinks the media is going crazy in Houston now, just think of them if that happened.

I was standing outside last night filling up my car, and it was rather pleasant when the wind wasn't blowing hard.

screw this! today it only got up to 49....that might not sound that bad but the place we were at today is nothing but flat land....nothing but flat for about a mile which let the wind get pretty bad. Nothing like shaking from the cold and having hard wind coming at you while standing on the top of a 8 foot ladder thats sitting on a couple of 2x6's that you nailed to a porch about 20 feet above the ground. Bring me back the 100 degree summer days.
