Rear Brake Question

Hello. I just did the rear brakes on my 99 Rodeo after I heard the dreaded 'metal on metal' sound. To make a long story short, I had to replace the left rear rotor, as well as the pads. After cleaning and lubing everything up, I reassembled the brakes and went for a short drive to seat the brakes. I noticed the the left rear was almost hot to the touch as if it was dragging. I did have a hard time removing the caliper bolts on the left side. I double checked everything. Is it possible the the caliper bolts can get bent just enough to cause the caliper not to release all the way and thereby cause the brake to drag? The right side is cool to the touch, and there was no problems when I removed the caliper bolts there. Has this happened to anyone else?:screwy:

Those caliper pins should slide in pretty easily. Were they corroded at all? Sounds like they are sticking.

Take it back apart and clean and lube those pins. Better yet, buy new ones and lube them with a smidge of caliper grease.

One those pins on my left rear caliper had rusted to the caliper bracket. When I tried to take it off, it sheared. I had to order the whole caliper to get the bracket. Be certain that they are well lubed and the rubber bellows is seated well, preventing water and dirt from getting in.

Did the new caliper fix the problem? If not make sure the emergency brake "shoes" are not dragging and causing the overheating issue.

Sure did. The replacement was easy, and bleeding the caliper was a snap.
