sunfire ENGINES

I'm new to the forum, so i'm sorry for posting and engine swap question. But I was wondering what would be the best swap for a 96' Sunfire SE and were i can get a hold of it. I noticed the 2.0L supercharged ecotec, but i have no Idea what would be the best for the car. I am looking at drag racing it, but I don't want an expensive and difficult swap. What would be the best way to go.

Do you want something thats pretty much plug n play or do you have the resources to tackle something that would require some fabbing?

Without cutting anything or rear wheel driving the car, the largest gm engine to fit is the 3800 s/c. But requires alot of wiring and a custom subframe.

how deep are ur pockets crate engines are far from cheap,neither are any tuner/performance parts to even come close to a decent dragster.

oh and if ur dragin it try n go for a better tranny(I've seen to many dropped tranny's from draggin)

For the price and the hassle, why dont you just get a newer car. I like that you're trying to make your car faster, but in the end, it is going to cost a lot and won't net you any more resale value. I'm not trying to be a downer to the whole thing, but rather play the devil's advocate and mention the opposition to your idea....just a thought. Good luck with the swap if you decide to do it!

i got the car for free, and its something i want to learn on. I want to stick with bolt on modifications.

He's right.... it's only going to cost money. And actually make you lose more in the end. Aftermarket parts narrow the market for a vehicle. Sooo..... that narrows the number of potential buyers, which lowers demand. Lower demand = lower cost. So it'll actually reduce your resale value.

If every one was goin for resale value alot of people wouldnt be puting tuner parts on their car or anything of that nature.No matter what kind of car u have the second it hits the road the car depretiates dramaticly, so what the hell i say go for it

Off topic, but i dont really mind if my resale goes down because i plan to keep my car until it doesn't matter anymore. I'm sure that the OP feels the same way based on his previous statements. Also, do you really think my resale dropped by turboing my GSR??

I'm fully aware that the resale is going to drop a great deal. sunfires and cavaliers sell hella cheap in the first place. So... what is my best choice of motor? I have a 2.2 sfe out of a cavalier, should i do something with that?

I don't know much about your year, but you may end up having to get lots of new stuff too . like A comuter or wiring connetions/ I'm trying to do the same thing with an '03. The motor has over 80k and is burning two quarts of oil a week. Have you heard whether you can put the 2.0 S/C in your car? I want to do that to my '03.
