Couple of PCS solenoid questions

How difficult would it be to R & R the PCS solenoid in my red '99 GP GT automatic transmission? Would the repair entail pulling the tranny and use of special/custom (i.e. GM designed) type tools?

Its a LOT of work. You need a engine hanger then you pull tires, drivers side axle, ball joints, tie the rack to the car, remove rack bolts, drop sub frame, tip tranny side way down, remove trans mount & bracket, remove side cover. This is just a quick post so anything else anyone want to add go right ahead.

As for special tools don't need any just the engine hanger, MM sockets (up to 18MM) strong 1/2 impact, 36MM axle socket, Various MM wrenches, BIG hammer & pry bar along with some stuff.

The work doesn't sound difficult. Pardon my ignorance, but I've never heard of an engine hanger. In the past, I've hung a chunk of chain on a piece of pipe with foam insulation on both ends to hang a sidewinder. I used that setup to do something like replace motor mounts or hang a motor on my other buckets of bolts. Is that something like what your talking about? Or maybe a cherry picker?

You have it exactly. There are manufactured engine hangers/supports that you can purchase to keep the engine in the car when the transmission is removed. Yours will work just fine. Replacing the PCS is about a $500 job at a tranny shop. It is worth the money due to the difficulty of reaching the solenoid as illustrated above.

yeah go to a shop and get it done, i had buddy who was a gm certified mechanic for 25 years do it in his garage and he ended up screwing up my tranny tryin to replace the TCC solenoid and now I just got it rebuit for $2200. And now my car shifts hard even when im just cruisin it wants to shift when it doesnt need to and the rpm just rises when the car is just idling! Gotta try and figure out what that is now $2500 later!!
