ok i got my b-20 in a 91 civic i was racing a prelude yesterday on the freeway we were going about 70 miles an hour when we both punched it i launched in fron of him as was up by about half a car length i started to pull away i was at about 110 mph i can feel the tourque and i feel like i can hit 125 or so. right when i think that my autogage rpm tach hits my redline and the light comes on telling me to shift, only prob. is im already in 5th gear. i ignore it for half a sec. and the engine starts to cut off and wont let me pass 110. what i was wondering is if that is the top speed??(i highly doubt it cause i could still feel torque kicking in and my pulling away) another reason is my stock 1.5 dx almost hit 115mph so i now b-20 can do it. does it have to do with the wiring or my rpm tach. i want to fix this asap. help is appreciated. thanx.

It sounds like the way your tranny is geared that your engine is running pretty fast. The cut-off is in the ECU so you don't blow up your motor.
I think B-series trannies are geared for acceleration, not top-speed driving. You would need different gearing if you want to go faster. Who needs to go faster than 110 mph unless you are on a track? :bloated:

well that is pretty dangerous but i was starting to pull away and i wanted to prove a point that my car can run with anyone.

its true that you dont really need to go faster than 110 but highway racing is pretty fun somtimes, i can hit 110 in 4th not even at redline, i did this while racing a bike *i dont know what kind* but then i seen a cop and had to slow down.......he still got my ass

u said u have a b16 tranny right ??? get an LS tranny take the fifth gear and put it in the B16 tranny then u should be good to go on the freeway

I have a Y1 tranny on my B18b and stock PR4 ECU...My speedo is pegged on the 125 mph mark when I hit redline at 6800rpm on 5th gear. Cruising is bad though at 4500rpm @ 85mph. Just get a chipped ECU to eliminate rev and speed limiter...:flash:

The real question we need to ask is what rpm are you at in 5th gear at 110? Cause if I remember correctly I am at 5k on mine.

first of all highway racing is really dangerous. there was this one guy who was highway racing and he crashed and killed a woman. another guy was highway racing and crashed and his integra ripped in half. well because of these highway racers, racing is now virtually nonexistent. cops are cracking down on street racing beause of these 2 highway racers. highway racers give us drag racers a bad name. 2 people ruined it for everyone. at our race spot, when i was a junior in high school i used to go and usually there would be like 80 cars there, but now when i just went racing this past week end, there was only 8 cars there.
anyways i say just get a ls tranny cause switching gears is hard. it would just be easier to swap the tranny.

By the way...110 mph at 6000 rpm...I did it on my way home on 580 freeway, no other cars except a couple of em behind me. I was cruising at 70mph then accelarated on 5th gear til I hit 110mph. I was on that speed for no more than 3 seconds and proceeded to slow down to legal speed limit.
Highway racing is not at all being condoned by this board or any other board to say the least...But sometimes when put in a spot and provoked, you have to hold your own. If you have to race someone on public streets or highway, please do so when you know that no other cars or people can be endangered. You know you and the other vehicle you're racing are put at risk, so thats the choice you have to make.
Racing is for the track!;)

I know my stock DX cruised at 90 @ 4000 rpm. I agree with EF_LSVtec about the racing. The only time I get on it is when I know there is no one else in danger, even then I keep my eyes open for anything unexpected. Also you must know your own capabilities and know how fast you are able to handle and don't go any past that. Either way, racing is still for the track.

hey EF_LSVtec watch out on 580 & 680 some guy wrote in to some paper complaining about people doin over 90 so CHP hired 6 more cops.
i have noticed a difference alot more people gettin pulled over this was in the paper a couple weeks ago i think it was in the sanjose mercury news.

thanks H4bangin...I don't usually speed anyway...Yeah right:D Good to know, especially that stretch of the freeway is my route to my son's school. I've been very fortunate, knock on wood, I just received my new drivers license renewed through the mail because I have no prior record.

dude my rpm's are high at 110 i was just a little over 7 thats my redline and thats when it cut off. at 60mph im right around 4000 rpms!!! that really seems high to me. i dont know if thats the way the motor is cause i know its not a high reving one. but 60mph @4000 seems a little high for me but i might be wrong. heres the way its set up.
b-20b w/ b-16 distributer, b-16 comp. b-16 wiring, w/ b-16 tranny.
every thing is in place for crvtec, which will happen in a few months.
but does my rpms seem right

If you have a Y1 tranny someone must have switched the gears on it because you shouldnt be at redline and only doing 110 mph...

what if its not even a b-16 tranny. they said it was, but who knows is there a way to find out what tranny i have. maybe its an ls.

An LS tranny should be geared even taller....meaning same speed, lower RPM..., so if there is enough HP to push the car, you should go even faster. Although those type of trannies are not desireable for acceleration because they are not geared low enough to keep the engine revs up in the power band when you step on the gas.

man im geting pretty pissed off bout this i think they did something to cut back the power of the b-20. and the guy that did it would do something like that. i raced a 91 hatch si and i bearly beat him with his zc engine. i know its not my driving cause i can drive pretty good. a lot of people said a b-20 would kill a zc engine so i dont know why i didn't. im gonna hit him up though.

there is no way your b20 would top out at 110 mph cause you would need a b series tranny and i have a b16a, jdm of course, and i hit 145 and my car was still pulling and there arent any trannies with shorter gears for a cable tranny. so i think you probably got sold a zc with a dx tranny. you should check the ecu first to make sure. i still dont know what ecu cuts out at 110 mph. sorry dude put you got jackd on the swap in some way.

The cops have a new way to stop speed offenders and that was it!-sike
U hit ur rev limiter! get a new/change ur ECU...Canadian ECU's do not have a rev limiter or fuel cut-off unlike USA's version...very popular for swaps.-learn somthin new everyday.:bloated:

lmao......no i did not get jacked, its not a zc with a dx tranny. i know what zc & b-20 engines look like and the tag confirms its a b20b. i have a b-16 tranny, gears are pretty short. i just dont know what he did. my check engine light is on. its been on since day one. i talked to him today and he told me hes holding back some of the power untill im ready to go with the b-16 head. i have a b-16 computer, b-16 wiring, b-16 tranny, w/b16 distrubeter, and i guess he didnt want me to push it too much untill i put my vtec head on there cause of something with the air mixture or some shit like that. so that probley explains it.

145......uh huh:rolleyes: Let me know what trans and ecu you are using and how much power you are making to go 145 mph in your crx.;) JDM ecus have speed limiters. They are set to 115 mph usually. So he is saying at 110 it cuts out so maybe he has a jdm ecu and his tach is off a bit. Redline do me a favor and get the serial code off the ecu and post it...also waht does the sticker on your trans say? Check the error code on the ecu. I think is probably the root of your problem. The ecu is probably in limp mode and causing the car not to run correctly. Why would your mechanic limit the car until you get the b20-Vtec work done. Sounds kind of fishy to me.

i dont know why that fagot would do that. its all set up for vtec, all i need is the head. would that have anything to do with it???
anyways the sticker on the tranny reads as follows: "S 1-1021852"
the ecu is the box under the carpet on the passanger side right???
if it is these are the only numbers i found.
theres a bar code and under the bars it has the numbers "37820-PR3-083
and under those numbers theres another set of numbers that read "410-114716AA
on the error code i dont really know how to read it but this is how the flashes were:
red light turns on for a sec. comes off and turns back on for another sec. then comes off and gives 3 quick flashes then turns off then comes on again for one sec. then off, and on again for another sec. then off one more time and then it gives one quick flash. and that pattern starts all over after that.
help me out i wanna know what he did, but i do konw he did something cause he told me he's holding back some of the power, for some odd reason.

Oh man...you are running a PR3 ecu on a non-vtec motor...no wonder it isn't running correctly. The ecu is looking for the Vtec sensors and they are not there and therefore it is not running the motor correctly. If you are planning on staying with just the b20 for awhile get a Pr4 ecu and it should be better.
