Hi
Does anyone know how I can replicate the 2001 Lamborghini Orange seen on the diablos?
Will Tamiya Clear Orange over a silver base work? Or is there a paint that comes close to bringing out the color?

Put down a coat of non metallic orange, then mix some gold pearl dust in clear and put it on coat by coat til you get the effect you want. Next, put straight clear over that so you can polish it without disturbing the pearl, plus it will make the gold really glow. I've seen those Lambo's in person in that color, impressive!;)

That's a fantastic color. You have several options.
The closest match is a color called Tangelo pearl, sold by Black Gold.

They advertise in Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine. You can buy it in a jar for airbrushing, and now they even offer their paints in spray cans. It is fantastic stuff. The Porsche is painted w/this color, and the picture is a bit washed-out compared to the actual color.

If you want to airbrush enamels, you can start with white primer (or gray primer followed by a good coat of flat white paint), then follow with Model Master Go Mango-the only really pure orange that Testors has ever done, and then overcoat it with a mixture of their Turn Signal Amber, which will give it a yellow/gold pearl effect over the orange. Or you can mix yellow pearl into clear, shoot that over the orange. Finally, clearcoat the entire body. The Miata was painted w/this mixture, it's a good pearl orange, not quite as bright as the 1:1 Lambo or the Porsche model. Don't let these two pictures fool you, the Porsche is brighter orange w/a better pearl effect than the Miata, which in real life is a bit less orange. If you can obtain the Black Gold paint, that would be the best bet.

how about spraying chrome silver then clear orange on top. that should do it.:)

That combination will give a candy orange that will not look like the orange on the Diablo. If you've ever seen the Diablo in person in that color (I've seen several) you will realize that the color isn't that simple. A silver base will not make it bright enough. A gold base or even a pearl white or pearl yellow base would make a much better start, but simply spraying clear orange over that kind of base still would make it a candy color, which might look good but won't be like the Diablo paint. The pearl that reflects on the Diablo is a yellow/gold pearl, if it's covered by clear orange the effect simply won't be the same or correct. It may look great regardless-especially if it's shot over a brighter color than silver chrome.
To accurately match the Diablo paint either has to be made from automotive paint sources-like the House of Kolors/Black Gold line I gave as a reference, or it needs to be layered as I referenced earlier. Couldn't hurt to try a Lamborghini dealership and find out about obtaining touch-up paint. Ferrari sells touch-up paint in very affordable sizes...and it's REAL Ferrari paint. Might work if there's a Lambo dealer near you.
