67' Shelby Mustang GT500 Eleanor PROGRESS

Well, you know me, my weak spot is that I can't seem to stick to one car at a time, but I been working on a 67' Mustang to make it look similar to the one in the movie "Gone in 60 seconds." This is all I got so far. I decided to work on this car after watching the movie and seeing other Eleanors on this forum.

Pic of the front so far, next to the real thing, still a lot of shaping to do on the top grille as well as the bottom.

Pic of the rear light conversion, along with sanded bumper, still requires putty work for the spoiler and to cover up the exhaust outlets.

All comments and critisim is appreciated, even with the slightest things;)

I think it's maybe the pic since I just slipped it into the scanner to get a pic real quick, cause I'm still not sure what part of the bumper your talking about, anyways thanks for the comments.

Yup it's a 67' AMT model, the car is not in the best quality but it's a re-mold of an older kit, I can tell because it's way more detailed than the newer kits. The engine blocks even got the cylinder "holes"(not sure on the proper term) molded into it even the engine and transmisson numbers are present, but I don't plan to use that motor anyways, I plan to drop a 427 Cobra Jet motor into it!
Thanks for the comments!

I had the same kit,i tried to do the same thing, make it lok like elanor, but i didnt know how to make body kits(i still don't,i need to expirement with epoxy putty...)it was a nice silver,i even had the nitrous instaled, and it had a rollcage, the whole thing is stripped right now because i decided to take it to school and some people dicided to see how strong glue is so the pulled of my carburator 1 rim and the friekin bumper,if i wasnt ashamed of the car,i would post pics:(

Looks good so far. So I guess there is no kit yet for this car? Oh well, I shall wait and se if they make one. That project is gonna be too much scratchbuilding for me.

Looks nice, I know what you are talking about when you say "cylinder holes" because my 1967 AMT "Muscle car" Fast backs block had them aswell, pity that you put the cover over them, maybe they are a good thing if you do a mechanics shop sort of diorama....could leave one of them off or something.......Well its looking good so far Hono, just dont screw it up :D j/k

Did you make those back lights yourself? Because the Stang model you have is exact same as miine, but mine was a remake....Just asking because mine didn't come with lights like that at all

Honoturtle
09-30-2002, 09:11 PM
Well the car came with the 3 vertical "bars" for lights, but I did a light swap with a 69' Cougar from the 69' GT500 kit, the car from the movie actually came from a 67' cougar if I'm not wrong, which is a bit longer than the one's I have now, but it's close enough for me.

the 67 shelby mustang has those horizontal lines, the ford mustang has 3 vertical bars........I know, I have one.

TOO BAD it isn't mine!!!!!!!!! I'm pretty sure the guy who's making this used the Gt-350 kit which comes with the correct rear lights, but his spoiler seems smaller than the actual car.

I'll probably start working on it again right after I finish my AE86, but it was going on pretty well untill I decided to chop off that crap spoiler I made on my AE86 which got me back to working at it, technically right now I'm only working on my AE86, but here's my line up planned; AE86, 67' Mustang GT-500, Accord, 00' Cobra R, Mugen Civic, F50GT then a C-West DC5 Integra. It'll most likely change it's order, but other than that I'm probaly set for the year!

Hey!! Thanks for the pics, now I got about 90 reference pics!

Well, I ordered a 67' Mustang GT-350 on Model Express, now I got the correct lights, spoiler, scoops, the hood needs some modifications. The total for the kit with shipping was $20-25, well worth it!

Here's a pic to compare the parts;
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/172927eleanorparts02.jpg
(RIGHT- GT-350 LEFT- GT )
You can see the difference between the hood lengths, and see how off I was with the rear spoiler, and since I used 69' instead of a 67' Couger rear lights they were shorter, but now I'm a happy camper:)

I'm a newbie, so maybe I can get away with asking what might be a really stupid question.
Why do people use a GT350 to make the GT500? Isn't the GT500 a better starting point?
I guess that was two stupid questions in the end

Orion37170
03-07-2004, 04:54 PM
that wasn't a stupid question at all. the thing is that eleanor is a 67th gt500, but the only kits similar to this are a 68th gt500 and a 67th gt350 and the changes between the two years are bigger than between gt350 and gt500

And also i believe the gt350 has a front bumper made like "Elanor's "

Or at least closer than the 500

The front bar used on the movie cars is a custom fabrication, it looks to have been based off the GT350R front bars. These were actually too small to fit to the newer mustangs.

Very nice work Honoturtle! Good thing you bought the GT350 kit and started work off that, Or I'd have to throttle you for using terrible parts from the start! :)

Wow Great job on the build up. I'm liking the GT350 tails that you got. They do look better than the Cougar ones. I would pick those up excep I alredy have too much money wrapped up into mine. I was going to do Eleanor but I want to make it my own. Check out my progress in the WIP thread.
Keep it up you are doing great.

Whoa, didn't relize this thread was recieving attention. Anywho, I did a few body mods before I put the car away, but haven't done much. For new information, I got a 427c.i.d. Ford engine from Tonioseven several months ago for this car, and maybe this thread will give me the inspiration to revive the project soon, rather than later.

I guess I'll keep you guys updated.

Does anyone know what rims can be used and where to get them - that are similair or the same as the rims used on Eleanor??

Orion37170
03-29-2004, 04:01 AM
There were Halibrand wheels used on Eleanor. You can use any Cobrawheels for that,e specially those from the Revell Drag King Cobra. I bought some photoetched at perry's in 18in cause i think all the others are to small for used on Eleanor

Bloodhound

The photoetch wheels that come with the fujimi GT40 lemans cars are also very nice and come with some nice wide rubber, definately worth the money to get them.

My first attempt at doing a kitbash. Thought some of you might get a kick out of my eleanor attempt. She's not 100 percent yet, I'm still looking for a billet side view mirror in the right scale to use...

Use this link... If you back up a directory there are others as well..
