Raced a Fox body stang

Well last night i was going to autozone when a friend called and said he had a guy that wanted to race me. It was a fox body stang with a 347, heads and cams, and all the boltons. He wanted to go from a roll which i dont like but i said ok. We went from 30 but no one in my car could here him honk so he got about half to a 1 car jump on me before i hit it....pulled him in, in 2nd and when i hit 3rd i passed him...by about 115 or so i had something like 1.5 to 2 cars on him. I had 2 passengers in my car and he only had 1.

How does 3 people in a car make it more dangerous than just 1 person?...yea yea i get it bad for street racing, but it was thier choice to get in the car, while i dont street race often, when i do it its usually in a some what safe area, no other cars wide road, plenty of shut down area and plenty of space between cars. No im not saying its ok to do it by any means but im not gonna say that will never do it again either.

although i agree with racing safely on the track, i'm not gonna preach to you, you know what's right and wrong and you make your decisions based on that. anyway, good job on the mustang death.

At the same token, isn't the "click it or ticket" campaign nationwide now? As part of that campaign you know you get a ticket for each passenger not wearing a belt because you are the driver, you are responsible?

while i dont street race often, when i do it its usually in a some what safe area, no other cars wide road, plenty of shut down area and plenty of space between cars. No im not saying its ok to do it by any means but im not gonna say that will never do it again either.

No location is safer than a track my friend. Said it before and will say it again, you can be the best driver in the world on the most desolate untraveled road. Stuff breaks, tires blow, that's the nature of the beast. But, at a track the enviornemtn is controlled, and when the inevidbale does occur, there is more than enough safety personnel to respiond to the situation.

Believe me, I'm glad you are safe and hadn't wredked. If I had them, I wish I could post the pictures of my wife's cousins "car" that took his life and the life of his passenger who were at excessive speed on a "safe road" they were always on. 1/2 the "car" was recovered from in a tree some feet off the ground when the wheel hub seperated. You guys just always get my blood pumping every time you post one of these brag sessions.

So it's not a hit against you directly, I'm just sharing my experience that woke me up, I was not a angel at one time either, so with that it's the same as the advice or insight I give to members vehicle problems, knowledge stems from lessons learned form the mistakes you or others make.

There are a million different ways someone could get themselves killed. I know people who died of food allergys. Does that mean that someone should not eat a piece of fruit?. Sure completely different subject but street racing under the right conditions is no more dangerous to anyone (the driver or pedestrians) than it would be on a track (does that mean he was under the right conditions, no). We are not here to preach to anyone (hell, AF has a very active forum dedicated to street racing. Some people just don't like the track regulations or spending the money to run there buddy), we are hopefully all big boys and if anyone chooses to take chances and nothing has happened, then they have gotten lucky.

As for the stang kill, nice work and was it LX or GT and Notch or hatch?

I totally understand where ur coming from with the expreince of losing a friend although i havent had something like that happen, i can see where u dont agree with street racing.....but what got me a lil mad was ur comment "If it would have turned out the way it should have under those conditions, would have made an interesting read to the morning paper." I found that to be messed up and it made it sound like u wanted something bad to happen.

John, it was a coupe like 91ish or so and im not 100% but i think i remember there being a chrome emblem on the fender so my guess is it was a GT.

your kidding right???? When you go to the track, anyone there knows the risk of watching. The old lady crossing the road with the food she just bought has not agreed to the risk. If you are on a open road(not a track), anything can happen. I am glad things worked out for you and no one was injured but it just does not seem like the risk is worth it. How bad would you feel if you hurt someone that was not involved with your race? Not to mention if you do wreck, you open yourself up to lawsuits. Or it could be worse....you could spend time in jail and a huge fine for getting caught by the local PD. Once again, it just dosn't seem worth it to me. Like someone said earlier, not preatching, you know right from wrong. I wish you luck in the future.

i got murdered by one yesterday night :(

well., not murdered.. but owned nonetheless.. i had 2 people in my car + lots of cans of soda (bbq) and he had 3 guys, sounded like he had a high stall tc...

must have been built, cuz he started walking on me slowly.. :(

While that sounds good from the standpoint of bystander's, it still has issues. I doubt that many people have an abandon road to race on. I also think it might make things more difficult for ems/rescue to get to you. I personally don't think it is a good idea and the risks are too high: death, injury to yourself and others, possible jail time and like you said the insurance company would probably not cover you for this. I also don't think they would cover you at the track either. I do appreciate you thinking enough of those around you to take if off the main roads but I have never been a fan of street racing of any kind. I think we have been able to talk about this like adults and will have to agree to disagree on this topic.

For sure man i dont race in the middle of town either, we race a few miles out side the city by my freinds farm.....nothing but flat land on either side of the road.

All coupes are LX's. All 5.0's had a 5.0 badge on the fender. The LX's were coupes, hatches, and conv. GT's were hatch/conv. with groundeffects.

As for street racing, I think it's dumb. I used to think like you. "I only do it on a flat, dead road, it's OK." A friend of mine and I were on a road like that at night and we were towards the end of our stretch (past our 1/4 mark) but we were still basically tied so we both stayed in it. Both doing about 110mph and climbing. We started to come up to a small hill. Let's just say we're lucky that I saw the beam or glare from the oncoming cars headlights. I flashed my lights on and off (to let my friend know he could get over in front of me) and I slowed down. He barely got over in time. Probably another second and he would've hit the other car. Then I'm sure I would've hit him or the other car also.

That was enough to scare me!!! That was about 13 years ago. Now that I'm married and a Dad. I see things differently now. Just think how you would feel if something ever happend to your family in an accident (not a race, just an accident). Then think of how much worse you would feel if you found out that it was because of two punks racing. All that...for nothing!!!

Anything can happen, an animal could run out, car could break, anything!!

Yeah, you may have to drive up to two hours to a track, spend alittle money. But it's alot safer, more fun, you actually get to see how fast your car is. I'm not saying you can't ever get on it every now and then, but come on man.....is it really worth it??!!

97copcar & giddyup50 have better clarified what I was getting at, with the experirence and being older and having my own boys to worry about on the roads in the not so far off future.

Everything was OK...it was just a close call. Like I said, coupes are LX's. If it has ground effects then it was a GT (GT's only in hatcback or convertible). No LX's had ground effects from the factory.

HEY....QUIT TALKING MUSTANGS MAN!! Sorry, sometimes I think if we start talking more about stangs, maybe I can get you guys to leave "the dark side" and come over to the good guys side.

Even when I was a mustang owner which I will be again shortly. I didn't get along with many fellow owners. I do get along with most F-body guys though. Don't know what the reason but alot of the stang owners from my area growing up where just dicks who thought themselves and there car to be the coolest shit ever. Not saying there aren't camaro, firebird and trans am owners like that but just seemed the majority at the time where like that with the stang.

Most of the people I've encountered (Ford or GM) have been fine. Sometimes either one can be jerks. But the ones that have seemed the most stuck up to me is the Corvette owners. Again, not all the Vette owners are that way, but most. I think there's jerks in all the car hobbies. Some of them spend alot of money and some of them like to tell everyone how much they've spent. And some are spending money and just keep how much to themselves and just have fun. I guess it's kind of like "keeping up with the Jones's". Oh by the way, MOST of the import guys are the same as the Vette guys, sometimes worse because atleast the Vette guys can back it up.

:1: . nothing wrong with gmc's. obviously they are mostly the same as the chevy models but i think of them as offering slightly higher class looks and options.
most f-body guys i have met are cool and down to earth. some of the people i have met that have mustangs are dicks, don't know what it is and its usually owners of fox body stangs (84-04). but theres good and bad everywhere.
