Oh guys i have come to the conclusion that its time for some change, at first i was thinking of selling the car and just starting fresh....but i really dont want another car payment, so as of now the car is all show and no go...so i think im going to turbo it. With that being said does anyone have any sites where they sell complete kits? Or would it be cheaper just to buy everything seperately? -Thanks

www.turbokits.com (http://www.turbokits.com) is a really good site.it has complete kits-turbo,wastegate,intercollers,blow-off valves ect. good luck

that site is horribly overpriced....you will save a lot of money if you buy everything individually. Boost is a fun thing, but know that its expensive. If you cut corners, it will fail....so if you're going to do it, make the commitment and spend money when necessary.
It is fun....good luck! If you have any questions or need help/advice, just PM me. I've built a few setups on Hondas, but they're all roughly the same thing.

Hmm good sites no 2.4 setups though looks like ill have to piece it together.

that kit isn't bad, but still i could put it all together for about half of what they're charging. I think that you'll be a lot more satisfied and knowledgeable if you piece the kit together and install it yourself. It isn't as intimidating as it may seem. Again, if you want any help or anything, just let me know...

The blow off valve, the intercooler, the piping and the couplers are fine, but any of the really expensive parts (turbo, wastegate, etc) i would steer clear of Ebay. A good site to check out even though you have a cavalier is www.honda-tech.com
There is a lot of good technical info in that site. You can also use the marketplace to buy quality turbo parts at good prices. www.hondamarketplace.com
www.homemadeturbo.com is another good resource

Plan on having things break all the time. Your cars reliability will be 1/2 of what is use to be if you get a proper tune. So if you go through with this, make sure you'd still have a mode of transport. Our turbo'd sunfire at the shop had a deacent tune, but the oil pump on the car went and so did the bottom end when it loss all the oil flow. Now it needs a whole new rebuild. Freak things like that decide to happen. But you'll love being turbo'd. This is why i have a PT cruiser as my daily driver.

Yea i planned on buying a beater anyway. Go out any buy a civic or something reliable. My friends rx-7 is like that or atleast when he first got it, something was always gettin messed up ever since he upgraded everything.

turboed cars aren't that unreliable, but i'm not sure how a Cavalier stacks up against my GSR exactly. I am slightly biased towards my GSR, but it was intended to be beaten daily and is built strong. Your car should handle a good deal of power as well. Do you have a power goal in mind?? I'm shooting for 330-340whp when i retune (that's on the stock engine)

Im looking to get around 250max for now nuttin to crazy, i think that goal is retainable.

stock internals can only handle so much, in this case about 8psi and a 70-90hp gain with a kit thats why I,ve decided to buy myself a crate engine and work on that, just so i know it can handle a higher amount of boost. Also a stock tranny gunna follow shortly after(my friends wrx lost about 3)so maybe getting a clutch kit would help(if its not an auto)Like everyone here says and knows speed is not cheap, far from it actually. And it will cost you more if you cheap out on someting. Now i'm not claiming to be an expert or nothin just sayin from exp. do a shit load of reaserch and tune, grease, lub, tighten everylittle thing before putting in a turbo.

^^That sounds like a good plan. I would keep thinking of your goals in power levels rather than PSI too....that's a good start.

yeah i was kinda suggestin that but used psi...lol ohwell made my point

someone explain 2 me why that turbo has an opening...?? that hole facing the front...:screwy:

I assume you're talking about the picture of the turbo setup on the RX7. The hole facing the front of the car is the inlet on the compressor side of the turbo...in lamen's terms, that's where the air goes in. I see you have an SRT4...you cant see that section of the turbo because your turbo is nicely nestled behind the engine, but if you could, you would see the same thing on yours provided you took the air intake pipe off.
Mine is the same way if you can tell by this shitty picture...

you can also see the inlet in this picture...

i know its the inlet for air, but y is there no intake connected to it, or filter...u cant run it open like that cuz it will fuck up the turbo
and FYI, if u remove my intake you can see the inlet, but yes the turbo is nested against the firewall in the back (makes it easier 2 get 2 the o2 housing and downpipe :naughty: )

my turbo as you can see, doesn't have any filter attached to it at all....i'm going to run mesh on it though. Also, it might be easy to get to your DP and O2 housings, but look at mine...i dont think it could get any easier than that IMO
CavLCD128
01-05-2007, 02:25 PM
so your gonna tell me that i dont need 2 filter the air coming into the turbo? i dont think so...lol
im starting to think that he just took the intake off just for show...but you defintally need something to stop the turbo from suckin in water, or a leaf

theoretically yes, there should be a filter on it, but its not required, obviously. and not many people go mudding or anything with their cars so water shouldnt be that big of a problem, hardly any water gets into the engine bay when it rains unless you go thru a puddle
CavLCD128
01-05-2007, 04:27 PM
what about flying insects? leaves? ANYTHING!? come on its stupid 2 run a turbo without a filter....there are a number of things that can be sucked into the turbo that would completly destroy it...
Schister66
01-05-2007, 05:23 PM
i have a few friends who do the same thing...on more expensive turbos mind you. I can't fit a filter in that small of a space, but i am going to run mesh over the inlet. Also, just due to the location of the turbo, there isn't much of a chance that something is going to get up that high. Also, this car is my summer only car. It doesn't see gravel roads, rain or anything that would wreck it....

Cavy's have a plash guard i the front anyway right???So even if you didnt want one you dont want one.Me personaly would have one on im not gunna put a couple g's to have somethin fly in and ruin it

yea same here...i dont need my warrenty voided because something got sucked up and ruined my turbo...
Schister66
01-06-2007, 10:23 AM
and as i'm sure you can guess, i dont have a warranty....there is somewhat of a space confinement if you can't tell by the picture or i would run a filter, but this way is a lot more bad ass when you hear it spool or pop the hood...lol
