intake....

ok so i am going to put a cai into my 98 cav,
but i wanna know something...
i noticed that on the stock intake,
there is a wire with a clip that goes right into the rubber intake tube.
now what i am wondering is what the hell that is...
and is it necessary to have what ever that is connected to the cai?

also...

i was wondering are there any referrals to a nice cai system
and anythign i should look out for... when i am installing it?

that little wire and clip tells the computer how much air is going into the engine to determine how much fuel to push out...so yes, it is vital...

no it doesnt, it tells the computer the temperature of the air coming into the engine, so it knows how much fuel to push out
you're thinking of the mass air flow (MAF) sensor,

but yes, this "wire with a clip" is important, its your intake air temperature (IAT) sensor, without it, your check engine light will remain on permanently, what some people do (dumbasses mainly) is they will just take that sensor out of the intake, and just stick it somewhere where cold air can get to it, when it senses the colder air, it pushes more fuel into the engine, thus giving it more performace, kinda, you'll notice a hair more power, but since you have nothing on your engine to burn that extra fuel, it will just clog up your injectors like a MOTHER FUCKER, and you will notice a loss in performance within a month or 2, you may have seen on ebay these "performance chips" or modules, they literally replace your IAT sensor, and constantly "trick" your engine into thinking the airs colder, again, NOT a good thing

pretty much every intake on the market, even the ebay ones, have a hole for that sensor, so i wouldnt worry about it

lol as a matter of fact im drivin right now without an O2 sensor....i installed a new DP and now im getin p0038 (low cat effenciency) which isnt a big deal i just need to run a spark plug defoulder in the wideband bung....and yea...talking shit online is kool :screwy:
