MY 94 camry's driver's side lock lock doesn't work. The main switch to control the other 3 door lock works fine. Power window works fine, too. Any ideal the problem? Please advice?

Hello ngsiufung,
# 1.... when you say the drivers side door doesn't lock do you mean only when you try to lock the door using the power lock switch on drivers side door?
# 2.... can you manually lock the drivers side door buy pushing the lock button down?
# 3.... can you lock the drivers side door using your key from both the drivers side door and the passengers side door?
# 4.... can you lock the drivers side door using the power lock switch located on the passengers side door?
a little more info. would be helpful to figure out what the problem is with the drivers side door lock on your car.:frown:

In any case you'll have to remove the door trim panel and investigate. Could be a bad switch, actuator, or mechanism.

My 95 does the same thing.....sometimes!!! It is working fine for right now but I am sure this will change. Haven't tried to take the door panel off and see if I could fix it yet. I figured it was best to leave it alone. Call me chicken.....

I remove the door trim panel to investiagte. I measured there is a voltage to drive the actuator. I guess the actuator or the solenoid may be bad. I rang the Toyota. The whole door lock assembly cost CAD$500. Do you think the actuator or solenoid can be sold separately. On the other hand, it seems to be a quite difficult to install the new one into it. Any ideal? Thanks

Hello ngsiufung,
the reason I was asking you all those questions was to figure out if the lock was jammed ,or if you have a break in the wire/wires going to the drivers side power door lock actuator, or if the actuator was broken and needed replacement, or if the wiring going to the switch had a break somewhere. the wiring harness located near the hinges is a trouble spot where internal breaks occur. I fixed 3 wires in that drivers side door wiring harness on my 1989 Camry about a year ago. one wire was completely severed and the other 2 wires were broken internally.:banghead:
If you could lock the drivers side door using a key or by using the passengers side door lock switch then that would tell me the actuator for the drivers side door is fine and you either have a break in the wiring going to the drivers side power door lock switch or that the switch itself is bad and needs to be replaced.
if you could not manually lock the drivers side door than that would tell me the linkage is binding or is broken/disconnected.:2cents:
with all camrys you can use the key on both the drivers side and passengers side doors to lock/unlock all the doors.
best of luck fixing this problem.

If you are getting power at the actuator (motor) when you engage the switch, you need to replace the actuator. I can't find OEM actuators on the internet but I found these generic actuators. The trouble with these is you're not sure they will fit correctly until you try installing it. Hopefully they come with adaptors if needed. You could always try a salvage yard.

I will do further investigation later on the wiring first. I don't have a garage and it is too cold to work outside in Vancouver, Canada right now. I want to make sure I was measuring the correct wire because the actuator is mounted inside. It is hardly to identify the wire to the actuator. I was seeing three wire and the color are red, black & green. I will let you know later till the weather getting warmer. So far I can use the key to lock & unlock the door. Thanks

I do the investigation on the door lock again today. I measured the wrong plug last time. The right plug has 4 wires on it. There is a voltage to drive the door lock actuator. I heard a weak mechanical sound when I apply 12V to the actuator. It seems to be stuck somewhere. Do you guys know how difficuities to remove the door lock assembly? Please advice.
