Hello. I have a 1998 chevy malibu. I recently got a amplifier and 2 subwoofers installed in my car. My battery keeps draining and my car wont start. Some one told me to get a "high volt alternator". My questions is where can I find one, and possibly whats place to get a good price on one? Thanks

Are you listening to the stereo without the car running? What amp are you running thats pulling that much power?

no i only listen to the system when the car is running. I am running a Profile AP1200 1200 watt amp (200 watt rms X 2) with two infinity perfect 10.1's 10 inch subs (75-350 watts rms each).

Have you upgraded the big 3?

that is not even close to needing a HO alt. but if your car is dieing while it is crusing around town, your alt might be going bad

my car dont die while running, but if I shut it off, sometimes it wont start again without a jump. Its not my starter, I already had someone look at that. I havent upgraded the big 3, I want to. Thats my next question, where can i get the 3 cables and how much will it cost me?

autozone, walmart has the battery to ground wire. most auto places. the only thing you might need to ask for is the alternator wire.

You have to make them bigger than the stock wire, the bigger the better dont go smaller than 2 guage most of the stuff they offer at walmart is 4, i spent about 30 got 12' of 2 gauge from autozone, 2-guage ring terminals and some other odds and ins. Took about an hour.

have you checked the water level in your battery ? If the car won't start after stopping it, sounds like battery won't hold a charge or the alt is not fully charging it up. Autozone will check that stuff for you for free.
