96 grand am sputter

well I have a 96 grand am with 2.4 quad 4 and 5 speed manuel tranny. My problem is that it has a rough idle and no power on take off. The car just sputters,But it starts right up every time with no problem. I have replaced plugs, plug boots, coils,coil pack cover,fuel filter,whole exhaust system,o2 sensor next to cat,and 1 fuel injector that sounded very weak.I had a freind at a local auto parts store check the codes for me. and the read out said(on the emisions) bank 1 sensor 2. I also checked all vacume lines. any suggestions are appreciated.THANKS .

Test your Idle air control(IAC) as this can cause simular symptoms. It is located on the side of the TB.
Since you have replaced a few ignition parts already I'd start there.

To test the IAC
- Attach an ohmmeter to the top two prongs of the IAC valve, terminals A and B.
- Inspect the ohms reading, measurements should be between 50-80 ohms.
- Repeat the process on the two lower terminals, C and D.
-- If the sensor does not come within those specifications on either of the tests, replace the IAC.

Also you can remove the IAC and clean it and the port it goes inside with TB cleaner. Dont soak it just use a brush or something to knock off the carbon if nessesary.

Do not push or pull the pintle as this can damge a new or old IAC.
A new IAC sometimes needs adjusted to measure 1 1/8" from the motor housing to the tip of the cone pintle.
You can also measure your old one to see if its out of adjustmet, but be very gentle with it as they can break when old.
The pintle is turned clockwise to move shorten.

I might hav a pic of that area if needed.

your description sounds a lot like a large vacuume leak, check the hoses for cracks. Oh and be sure and post up when you clear up the issue.

It also would not hurt to clean the throttle body (TB) really good.
As carbon builds up on the back of the TB butterfly and can casue sputtering.

its easy to over look a crack in the backside of a hose in a dark engine compartment and his description and codes were similar to a buddies that ended up with a big leak.

First off we dont talk similarities here JIM, we want fact pertianing to the specific issues.

This isnt some lame A** yahoo autotips group here :grinno:

Second, if he had a vacum leak, big or small, he would have starting issues, thats the facts !
