2000 silverado, One day sound just randomly cuts out; radio still has power, plays CDs. I know the speakers work cause there is a faint static coming through. I've checked all fuses, re-ran wires but nothin has worked. I also put in a different after market sterio everything worked fine for a couple days then it cut out again. I'm at a loss - need advice.

So you're saying with an aftermarket stereo it would still have power to the head unit but no sound?

If this is the case; maybe it's a power issue. maybe re-run the +12 lead and the remote power lead from the fuse box..

Well that rules out that the head unit is bad. Does it work with just the radio running? Is your security light on in the message center? I think that cuts out the tunes when it's engaged...I could be wrong though. I'm pretty sure that's what my old Impala did.

When the after-market sterio was installed everything worked for a couple days, then sound cut out just like before. Both times the sterios still had power, still played CDs and radio.

I'm guessing since it happened to both stereo's that it's probably the wiring going to the speakers or the speakers themselves. Or it could be that you blew both channels in both stereos, but I think that's unlikely yet possible.

Maybe try wiring in some other speakers and see what happens. If they work...wire the vehicle ones back in and see what happens. If the vehicle ones are working I'd assume it's the wiring. If the vehicle ones don't work I'd assume it was either the wiring or the speakers. If neither work then I'd assume it's the stereo.
