Is it worth trying to clean an EGR valve or buy a new one. Thanks! Kevin

cleaning usualy works, try that first. use a screened gasket from NAPA when replacing it to keep the larger carbon particles out.

After you remove it, work the plunger(pintle) in and release it until it works freely without sticking. If it sticks open a little, keep pushing the plunger in and releasing until if fully closes. Don't use any solvents. Mine have always unstuck with this procedure.
VMag/Bravada...RIP... had a fellow named Jim in Phoenix who installed a stainless faucet screen on his gasket a few years ago to stop carbon chunks... the same time I drilled a dime sized disk with tiny holes and fitted to the gasket to stop the chunks in mine. Boy time flies...that was a good site too until the cyber maggots ruined it.

use Chris' method combined with lots of compressed air to blow out any thing you loosen up.
