Finally a find a good place to paint a shell..and it's first victim is a 1/25 Revell Corvette Z06. So far, the kit is building very well, and the body now has it's coat of paint. The color? Well, looks better than I thought it would.

Not a whole lot of progress yet, but i'm actually getting a kit done, which is an amazing feat in itself.

Pictures aren't the best quality...can a good model picture be taken with 5.0 megapixels?

try taking it further away on a tripod of you've got one, a stack of books if you don't. then use a photo editing program to crop the image.
if you get in too close to the object, you either get a very shallow depth of field (with the macro setting) AND/OR get handshake. from far away and with the highest settings, you can get a better overall focussed.

I have to take a lot of photos for work and my old 4.0 megapixel camera could take pictures of small buildings (2-3 story) and I can still count the bricks on them so 5.0 megapixel is more than enough.

Megapixels have nothing to do with it, you have to have a good lense with macro to focus on the model and not the background. My old Nikon that I've used for years is only 2.1 megapixels. The pictures you took of the 'Vette done w/5 megapixels would just be much larger on the screen, and no more in focus.

Interesting color on the 'Vette...
