I have a 2001 Ford F-150 (4.6L) extended cab with 110,000 on the Odometer. I would like to be able to tow my 1996 Chevy Impala SS show car (4500lb curb weight) on an 18ft trailer. I will be towing my Impala out of state (North Carolina), and I would like to know if I can safely do so with my small-engined F150. Are there any upgrades that I should consider on my F150 before attempting this task?:sadwavey:

If it's an automatic, you want to turn off the overdrive. My 2000 F150(w/4.6 auto, 118k) pulls my boat (4000lbs) ok... @ 60mph with no problems and has a transmission cooler on it.
If I towed more often I would have gone with the 5.4l and a frame mounted hitch. But twice a year @ 200mi each, It gets the job done.

I do have a frame-mounted class III hitch behind my rollpan. I don't know if my truck has a tranny cooler or not. It did, however, come with a frame-mounted hitch from the factory, so I would imagine that it does have a tranny cooler of sorts.
