95 tercel auto trans

While changing the filter in the trans of my 95 tercel (3 speed automatic), I found two small magnets in the pan. They were about the size of a nickel except they were square shaped. One was broken in two. Does anyone have any idea what this is and if it will cause a problem. The only problem thus far is that it seems to be a little slow changing into 3rd gear.
