Belt Problem?

I own a 2003 F-150 with the 5.4 V8.When i accelerate fast and the engine RPM's get to 4000 and above the something either the engine, transmission, a belt or something makes a whining sound and when it changes gears it makes a errk kinda sound. It sounds almost like it is a belt slipping. But i have checked the serpentine belt and it is tight. I dont live close to a dealership, and would love to stay away from having to take it to one because of the cost of having a technincian look at my truck for monetary reasons. If anyone has a clue what is making the sound and how to fix it please help me!

I own a 03 f150 5.4 4x4 and have been a mechanic for 20 years it sounds like it your trans. I have heard what your describing out of trans before. I would say take it to a trans shop and have it checked or some one with the proper computer.

Changing the belt would be easy to try. Make sure you use ONLY a cog type serpentine belt made by either Goodyear (Gatorback) or Dayco (Polycog). They are the only ones I've had any luck with on my Aerostar after repeated failures with NAPA's (Gates') best belts. The cost should be around $40 at Autozone (they handle the Goodyear Gatorback brand).

Best of luck,
