I will be picking up a B&M Shiftplus within the next couple weeks, just curious if anyone has installed one of these and what to watch for. I was reading a post on here one day and someone commented you could end up with a CE light staying on all the time. Just want to know how far into any harnesses/sensors I'll be digging to install this. Thanx in advance

The install is pretty straight forward. two wires on the trans plug. The whole install takes less than ten minutes. If you don't mix up the wires you wont throw any codes. When my shiftplus is on i get the "trac off" light in both stages but nothing else. And it works great. I can post pics of the correct wires if you want. just don't use the connectors that come with it they suck.

Appreciate the response, so the only thing thrown is a trac off light. Two wires seems pretty straightforward. I've got plenty of electrical connectors and multiple types so using somehting better won't be a problem. Pics would be outstandingly helpful. Thanx again

sorry for crappy pics it's dark and i only have a few from when i first got it. ill take some new ones tomorrow and post it for you. Two wire come out of the shiftplus black and red. Black is spliced into the light blue w/ white stripe wire on the upper-leftmost part of the plug. The red wire from the shiftplus splices into the red w/ thick black stripe directly below the light blue wire. There are a few red wires with black stripes on the plug but the one you want is right below the blue w/ white stripe. like i said ill have better pics up tomorrow.

Awesome man, ppreciate the pics. I ordered mine on the 29th, so I'm just waitin for it to come in the mail. Looks pretty straightforward. So it's a splice into the wires on the plug, not clipping the wires and bypassing it into the shiftplus wires, right?
Evilmonkey1177

Right you are splicing the wires not cuting them. Hope these pics are a little better help. Oh and use a 3/8 in drill to punch a hole in the firewall to run the shiftplus into the dash. you can try to push the cable through the gasket thing in the firewall but it is tough. hope these help.

What is this shiftplus and what is it for?
Evilmonkey1177
01-08-2007, 08:05 PM
it's a thing for 4 speed auto trans that makes the clutch band clamp faster, causing faster and harder shifts. it has two stages to pick from one is slightly stiffer than stock and two is really strong shifts. I drive in one all the time and haven't had any issues with it. Basically, it's a clutch kit for an automatic.

So you can "shift" with this thing installed in your car? shift like a manual? Im so lost lol
Or all this thing does is improve the automatic shifting, u still dont shift at all right?

the cheapest i've found them is:
http://www.turbotechracing.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=482&idproduct=1136
It still shifts like an automatic the shifting is simply much stiffer and responsive. There is no lag in while the trans is shifting gears. For example in Wide Open Throttle and in stage two on the shiftplus my tires chirp shifting from first into second.

ya, it basicly makes an automatic shift like a manual.
hey matt, how long have you kept it on stage 1? cuz i heard that if you keep the shiftplus on all the time, it ruins the tranny over time. idk tho, they might have only meant keeping it on stage 2. also, i heard some say that you can change the stage up while the car is on and others say you have to have the car off no matter what to change the stage. which one is true?
i got mine for xmas =)

I've had mine in for about 3 months on stage one all the time w/ no issues. I changed the trans fluid right before the install just for kicks. I've heard of people using it on one all the time for a year or so with no major problems either. I think it a case of "don't drive the shit out of your car and take care of it when it needs it and you'll be fine."
My understanding is the car has to be off to move up or down in any stage. I belive ECU reads the signal when the car first starts and doesn't read it again untill the car is started again. It holds true for mine. I can flip the switch all day while it's running with no change.
I can see how stage 2 can hurt the trans after a while. it's really strong and i personally think it should only be used on the track for short periods of time. But stage 1 makes driving a lot more fun and you don't get the feeling that things are breaking when you shift, like you do in stage 2

Just got mine in the mail today, will be installing it tomrrow. Can't wait to see how it does. Yeah, shipping was a little slow. Ordered it on the 29th, got here just today. Might be because of the holidays that it went slow. I will post back with feedback and how it works out. Thanx to everyone for the help and advice.

Ok, i think i get it, so this shiftplus thingy "improves" the way the automatic cars shift?
Does this shiftplus thingy improves the auto tranny ALOT??
I know it makes shifting faster and stiffer, but does it do something noticeable?
I might pick one up too thats why...

yes, it "improves" automatic shifting.
and yes, i heard it is very noticable. i heard this one guy shaved .4 sec of his quarter mile time w/ the shiftplus alone.

One more thing i need to get straight...
Do you put on D and drive normaly and let the shiftplus do all the work? or do you shift between 1, 2, 3, and D?

I highly recommend gettin this and installing it. I installed mine in about 15 minutes, and it is a definite improvement. I suggest not leaving it in Stage 2 unless you're out lookin for someone to race or you gotta get somewhere in a hurry. Stage 1 is ok to leave it on for everyday driving. I will say Stage 2 was a freakin :iceslolan :grinno: :grinyes: :naughty: blast on the freeway. So to anyone looking to get it, here's another good note for the book.

I explain how to install it on the first page of this thread...it's pretty straight forward. If you have any issuse w/ install we can all help. All i have to say is that the shiftplus is prob. the most noticable preformance mod i've done. That combined w/ motor mounts really improves the preformance of the car.

In theory it should work on any 4 speed automatic...the wiring might just be a little different. You might call turbo tech racing or B&M to find out the jist of newer model cavys and sunfires.

Kay guys I jsut ordered my ShiftPlus, I have a FEW questions, I got the 97 z24 auto, tell me if this is normal, going from a complete stop, hammering the pedal to the floor, the engine shifts into second at about 5500-6000 RPMS, then into 3rd at about 3500-4000 RPMS, thats normal, people say my car over revs, but thats also hammering the pedal down at a light to race someone, normal driving, it shifts at lower RPMS. And my last question, what will the shiftplus do in regards to the performance of my car, the tires dont even squeal on it when i hammer it down from a dead stop, will it make it do that? Thanks guys, I will probably pay a mechanic to put mine in, i dont know how to fuse wires, and all that jazz. Thanks !

Wow, you just ordered yours??? ME TOO!!!
lol, where did you order yours from? I got mine from autobarn...
But anyway, with you REV thingy, yes i think your 5-6 thousand rpm rev is normal, and your 2 - 3 gear is normal too, try not to do that often cuz it grind up your tranny alot...
You ordered the shiftplus without knowing what it does!?!?!? damn... well, it suppse to "improve" the automatic tranny, suppose to make it shift faster and more stiffer... there is two stages, stage 1 is little stiffer than factory, and stage 2 is for short time racing only, its ALOT stiffer and harder, so leave it on stage 1 and DONT leave it on stage 2 cuz it will mess up your tranny...

Lol awesome. Stage 1, I got it. Is it normal for me not being able to ever sqeual my tires? 97 Z24 auto, Ive seen other z24 autos squeal tires like mad, and wonder why mine doesn't. I even have a cold air intake, so it should gain a bit of power, but still none, seems as when i mash it to the floor, it picks up instantly so it doesnt spin the tires, could 50 pound subs/subbox in the trunk be a problem? I want to sqeual those tires like crazy, I even tried the Ebrake burnout, and nothing still.

Lol, are these new tires? If they are, you probably wont be able to do that, try do it on a rainy day, so the ground is wet, if the ground is always dry, then you tires will pick up traction real fast and you wont be able to speual...
Why do you wanna do that anyway? just to wear out your tires? lol....

They are used, got good amount of tread left, Bridgestone tires. And yes Im trying on dry roads, and yes i can in the rain, it spins like a mother. But I love squeeling tires on dry pavement, i love the sound, use to do it all the time on my Chevy Tahoe SUV, did huge smoke shows with it, and i know you cant in the cavalier, but i want at least some good squealing on dry pavement with it :-)

1st off, ur not gonna be able to squel ur tires as easy w/ an auto then a manual. u also might not have enough power at the wheels to do so and a CAI doesnt do close to enough. maybe 8 HP tops from a CAI. also, u wont be able to squel w/ the shiftplus. but when u have it on stage 2, and u punch it, ur tire will chirp between gears. and Lefix is right, stage 2 is ONLY for racing. do not leave it on 2 all the time or the tranny will be toast. it is ok to leave it on stage 1 tho.

Strange...with subs in the back you should lose traction a lot faster w/ a front wheel drive car. When you punch it, the extra weight in the back causes the back end to squat down and pulls weight off the front tires. so you would lose traction faster. Thats why it's "better" to drag race with rwd cars...when the car squats, it squats onto the rear wheels...gaining more traction.
