99 vibration ?

:confused: My 99 astro mark II package has a vibration. It does not start up till you have driven around 10 miles. It feels like it is in the rear and ocuurs beteween 40 and 60 mph. but it does not do it all the time. I thought it was a rear tire problem and had the tire shop check it. They said they could not find a problem but when we got it back the vibration was gone till this past week. It does appear that it is getting worse. I have checked the drive shaft universals and they appear to be tight. I have read on other posts that you need to pull them to check them .I haven't done that yet ,just hoping someone has had the same experience. Thanks for help.

Im guessing its the tires or the shocks.

To make sure its not the tires you could switch each of the tires out with a spare tire and run it down the road to see if it has changed. Just because a tire shop said they didnt find a problem, doesnt mean its not a tire. Just because they seem balanced doesnt mean they arent out of round or have belts seperating, Ive seen this same thing happen a bunch of times, its usually is the tires. I did the tire thing and it did not change it .In fact it may have got a little worse. While changing I noticed that the left rear wheel was hot,not the tire ,the drum area.You could even smell that it was hot.The drum came off easy enough so I don't think it was due to the brakes. I think the van has a bad axle bearing which is generating the heat. Going to check it out today.Thanks for your input.

I changed the left rear axle bearing and it cured the problem.The bearing did not show excessive wear and there was no play in the axle. The bearing did show signs of excess heat. It appears that the bearing got tighter has it warmed up. Hope this can help someone with a similar problem.
