Air bag light blinking. Computer shows no error!

Ok, so today my truck had a little bit of a hard time starting (couple of slow cranks, then finally started). After that, my airbag light started blinking. I called my local dealer, and he said that he heard a low battery can cause that. I had the battery tested at a local autopart store, and sure enough, the battery was bad (which I already pretty much knew from the slow cranks).

We replaced the battery and sure enough, the airbag light is still blinking. When they hooked up the diagnostic computer to the port, it showed no errors while the airbag light was blinking!!!

The code was 1 blink, then 9. I am pretty sure it is 19, but could be 91 too I suppose. EVERYWHERE I look on the net, and I cannot find what that code means. Any ideas???

Thanks!

I apologize. It is a 2003 EB 5.4.

I have been searching for a while, and found that error refers to a computer that logs a crash. It can only be used once and then has to be replaced. The kicker is that this vehicle has never been in a crash, and just started this morning.

I have been reading several sites that says the Ford Warranty for airbag related problems is 50K. I have like 52k miles on this truck. Is Ford generally a stickler for this kind of mileage, or would they let it slide??

The code 19 refers to the drivers air cag circuit. The test wants a scan tool hooked up to it and see what trouble codes come up. Such as B2293. It does not tell how to diagnose without accessing the module with a scan tool. It is highly possible it is a clocksrping. But not positive. If you have a good repoire with your dealer, they can extend a warranty problem past the date and mileage. All depends on the service manager you have. Good luck
The scan tool the auto parts store used is to retrieve codes from the engine PCm only. You need a different tool to access the air bag module.

Well, I went to my dealer today. They couldn't take me today, but I was more interested in making sure it would be covered under warranty. They showed absolutely zero leeway in the warranty. They said it is a 50,000 mile FEDERAL mandated warranty, and that if it was 50,001 they won't covered it. They said that Ford would simply say that is why we sell extended warranties.

Obviously I was less than satisfied with this answer considering all of the in warranty AND out of warranty problems I have had with this truck. I went and spoke with the sales manager (since this is where I bought my truck), and he remembered me. He said that they would at get me a discount at the VERY least and hopefully it is something simple and that they would be able to cover the entire thing.

I was hoping that FORD would cover it (as opposed to the dealer), so that it would be fully covered. I guess I will have to take what I can get. For a 50,000 mile vehicle I am pretty disappointed though. To date I have had the following problems (and have only owned it since the high 20k's):

* BOTH mirrors went bad
* There are 2 baffle fans (?) in the back that control rear air and the vents it comes out of. BOTH of those went bad at two separate times
* Mirror switch went bad
* Rotors are of very poor quality. Hit a puddle, and now vibrates badly when breaking
* Leaking sunroof
* Airbag issue

I have never really been a Ford guy, and to see this many problems, albeit minor, is really disheartening, and simply reinforces my concern about Ford quality.

I know this is a little off topic, but thanks for letting me vent anyway.
