I havn't posted in a long time but this is the place to come for everything 4th Gen.
My brother has been driving my car since I left for college 3 years ago.
I now need my car again and my brother was filling me in on the new 'problems' that the car has acquired.
Most importantly, there is a strong smell of gas inside the passenger compartment and it surrounds the car after you drive it.
Could someone point me in the right direction to fixing this problem?
Thanks,
DJ

Well the fuel line does connect to the filter on the passenger side on the firewall, and it also exits to go to the engine right there as well..It may have rattled loose.

Thanks for the Respones.
I did a lot of research yesterday and everything told me to take it in.
I didn't have the time to try to trouble shoot the problem and actually, even if I had, I wouldn't have found this problem.
I took it to my mechanic and he found that it was an O ring on top of the gas tank.
He said it was really strange and very unusual, like someone had screwed this particular pience on too tight or tried to remove it the wrong way.
My brother and I think that the idiots that stole my car this summer tried to open it or screw with it when they tore apart my rear seats looking for stereo equipment.
Anyways, the mechanic said I was driving around with a bomb on wheels.
Very nice.
Peace,
DJ

yikes..i saw a burned up 4th gen at the junkyard today. it was sad. also saw a blown y8 that had the intake manifold in pieces. 1/2 off sale this weekend and theres a tan leather interior for the hatch..needs a little stitch work but it would look nice. i just wish i could find an a6 bottom end. this search for a girdle is like a quest for the holy grail.
