Have a 1993 rodeo v6 with automatic locking hubs the 4x4 is making a clicking/grinding noise when engaged. Does anyone have any clue about this noise.

not entirely sure but check the boots on the front axles. If they're torn they'll make all kinds of noise when you engage the 4wd.
Are you doing everything like it says on the visor?
stop, put it in 4wd, drive in reverse for about 3 feet, then you can carry on your way. Same thing when you take it out of 4wd.

When you are checking the cv boots, grab the cv axle at the wheel end and see if it slides in and out. If so then the clip came off and the grinding sound is the hub chewing up the end of the axle. Its been known to happen.
If its ok, then it could be the hubs sticking or bad. A bad cv joint will click but unless its completly broken it shouldnt have any grinding sound.
