I do believe that is the Modulator.

Yep, that is the modulator, but that is not your problem! :grinno: We just went through this "not shifting when cold" discussion on a thread here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=656832) in the GP Forums.
Good Luck!

alright thanks , i went to that thread and skimmed through it . i read about the seals and them expanding and all that . So i plugged the valve and started my car , it instantly went into reverse but it was hard shift , so i un-plugged and hooked the lines right back up. So its my lip seal right that went bad right?

Yes, when you disable the modulator the trans will go to full line pressure (165-175 psig) and would have the same effect as putting the shifter in low gear. Sorry, but this does indicate a “lip seal” leak when it is cold. With the modulator disconnected, the high line pressure, will in effect, overcome the seal leak and it will “slam into gear”! This is one reason I suggest putting the shifter in reverse until it engages, (lower line pressure) rather than low gear. It is also easier on your transmission mounts when it engages in reverse, instead of low! You might buy some time using a warm up period, or the "reverse shift" procedure, but eventually the problem will get worse and you will have no other option other than to rebuild the Trans.:crying:

bummer :( , well i just put some lucas stop slip in , see if that can temporary fix that issue. that will give me some time to look around and see where i can get my tranny completly rebuilt. Not so serious right now , just kind of annoying not being able to just cut on the car and go , thanks alot though this forum is great
