Jsut seeing if this may be something else some might know about:

92 3.8 GL

When we got home from Cristmas dinner I was parking the car and noticed a trouble light abruptly flash in lower left corner (remember guys, I don't dirve this car much).

Pain in the butt ' cause by the time you would focus you're eyes on which one it was, it was gone, I mean really quick flash. After a second or two of thinking about it, I noted it only happens when the wheel is cocked to the right, so I put it hard over and the light came on and stayed on and it was the oil light. :eek: Level is fine.

When the oil was changed for the first time after purchasing the car iin the fall, it was BAD, mo' fugly bad dirty. Changed it, and changed it again after 500 miles. I have a bad suspicion that the pump suffered some damage? or Sump pick up screen? Or, and this is where you guys come in, a electircal issue in the column since ti only comes on with the wheel to the right?

You need to find out why the light is coming on by retrieving the codes.

Does the rpm's pick up a little when the wheel is turned hard to the right? If the engine does not increase, it is possible the rpms are too low and cause the light to flicker. First thing I would do is to install mechanical gauge and get an accurate pressure reading. See if it changes much when the wheel is turned. Been a long tome sine I have seen a 92, but look where the wiring may come into contact with the steering column when it is turned. Sorry I don;t have the magic bullet for you. Good luck

I was leaning along the same line of questions as way2old. The Idle Speed Control should speed the engine up a bit when the steering is at one of the locks due to the increased load placed on the engine. As he suggested, a mechanical pressure guage would be a quick way to determine which direction/part to begin looking at.

Yeah have to get a guage on it to be sure, just fishing for ideas. I did also pose the question in my head about the ISC, which is new(er). Remember I ahve that random stalling issue? I'm starting to wonder if it (ISC unit) is bunk. :dunno:

No, I don't believe you will get any codes from the oil light coming on. I misread the original post. I mistook the phrase trouble light for a CEL light. As suggested above, you need to find out what the oil pressure is using a mechanical guage to help rule out a faulty sensor or faulty wiring to the sensor.

Probably at idle, turning the steering wheel lowers the RPM enough that the oil pressure drops and makes the light flicker. My 01 Vulcan does it. I've seen a few Vulcans that do it.
