TEST RESULTS on HP Chip for my 89 hb si

OK, retested the civic today here it is new chip:
1. Stock Si ECU(pm6) I got 109hp at 5827rpm
2. ECU from ihaveeverthing on e-bay(lair) I got 107hp at 5792rpm
3. #2 ecu with chip from JDMAUTOPARTS on e-bay I got a whole 126hp at 5494rpm.
Ok now I cant give you tq. reading becuase this is a old ass school dyno and the focken gauge is broken.
Also this is a stock si motor no mods other than a intake tube and 2 1/2" exahust from cat back with a flow master muffler. Stock cat also with res. still on. This motor also has 177,896 never been rebuilt and no mod internals.
Soon to come are the 2 piece hearders then retry tests
Over all Im happy it only cost me 135 for the computer as it is now. Oh ya if you do this computer mod make sure you have good equipment as far as a nice soldering iron with a pin tip on it. Cause it will take soldering a new scocket in where the chips go. But to change chips the scoket makes it easy to remove one for the other. OH YA PULL THE POS. BATT. CABLE

OMG  Those are some impressive results. I didn't think a new chip would make that big of a difference, but I was obviously wrong. Can you feel the difference?

Oh ya I can feel the difference especially when that del sol came up and revd on me hehe got him by 2 cars. Nice thing was I have raced him before and I lost last time.
Oh ya anybody thinking about doing this mod. Make sure your ECU is chip able. If it is chipable there will be a 28 pin onkio chip in the lower right hand corner 10% us cars had these and almost all JDMs had them.
I got a JDM one because my stock did not have this chip I had a 26 pin.

I am assuming these are flywheel horsepower measurements...how did you go about measuring the horsepower figures??

yeah thats a really efficient drivetrain, way too efficient. considering the stock hp is 108.
i know the exhaust didnt add much hp and neither did the intake
im a little sceptical of the dyno you used... but still with that amount of increase... i dunno... id be sceptical.

my thoughts would be even if the dyno is off one would figure it'd be consistently off... so if thats the case it'd still be a great gain

I know nothing about this machine. All I know is that it is a wheel dyno and it is a SUN machine(from 92) and the toruque gauge is broken. Im not sure if it is giving a est. of what the hp off the flywheel(doubt it cause no measurements are put in to this unit other than tire size). but it really doesnt matter I increased it 17hp over all even at 88hp stock it would be a huge gain. I really dont think this unit has been calibrated in years

no im not saying that it didnt give you hp....
im just saying... i would be weary of the tune...
it must mess with the timing, and fule maps. [whatelse would the chip mod do?] and thus you might need higher octane gas, and possibly more of it.
so the pro's are higher hp, but what are the con's?
and on a stock motor, why bother?
just my opinion. thats all

Oh I understand what your saying. I do agree with you on the fact it is a 13 year old motor with 177,000ish miles on it and a stock out of the box motor is only 108hp. But this was what the thing said. I agree it could be -0% to -20%. And yes this chip does mod the fuel curve and timing and raises the rev limit to 9000 as if the motor would go that high before to blows up anyway. So I got to watch the speed shifts. hehehe
WHY BOTHER hmmm good ? cause i dont feel like pulling this motor out to put another in until this one swallows a valve or does a weight reduction of it own when a rod comes flying out the side of it.
cons gas mileage goes down for sure, wearing out motor faster maybe other things like motor mounts cause there stock.. who knows what else

Curious... where did you get your car dynoed at, and how much was it, cause all the places round here want an arm and a leg to do it.

My friend is a student at Fresno State Univ. in of course Fresno he is a shop formen there in the auto shop they got a dyno donated about 6 years ago. So it was free for me.

well, i don't doubt that your chip didn't help you out a noticable amount, changing your ECU is often times one of the most cost effective horse power makers. however as far as numbers are concerned i have no clue. i HAVE however seen a turbodiesel on a car show get EIGHTY HORSEPOWER just from the computer chip. I kid you not, as in 79 + 1. But this was a turbodiesel in a big ol' 1 ton truck. but i still don't doubt the ability of computer chips to help out HP on any car.

Where can i buy the chip that gave you the biggest increase??? Does he sell the whole ecu with the chip in it already? I'm asking this because i don't have any soldering experience and neither do my friends. thx

You could ask him but I dont think he does. Here is his e-mail addy.
[email protected]
he is also JDMAUTOPARTS on e-bay if you do a search by user.

i would have thought more than 109hp stock. i would suggest replacing your cat because with that much miles maybe its plugging up. thats pretty good for a chip. i wish they would make chips that change the fuel adn timing maps but leave the redline stock cause i dont wanna overrev my engine

Email him he does his own mods to the chips you maybe able to get one the way you want it. Or get a tach that has a limiter on it.. just a thought
OH YA btw I went to ro_g_hb house today and I got 34mpg on the way there and 32mpg on the way back so if ya stay out the pedal it still gives good gas mileage. Avg. speed was 80 until I got to SF freeways there was a focken 49ers game today.. hehe
EDIT: OPPS I SAID 34 AND 32MPG I WAS WAY WRONG it was really 26 there and 24 on the way back sorry
