This might be crazy :screwy: but i know they are out there.
I am hoping someone out there could help me find a trailer hitch for my 79 Firebird, or any ideas on what the best route woud be to put a hitch on her.

To pull my 4 wheeler and what ever else l feel like, been looking at trucks too but for what im going to use it for, a hitch on the bird is more practical (i think) Im thinkin i have too many things with motors already not to sure i want another. I know ive see hitches on those years my exs dad had one. might just have to break down and find one that will fit the frame and weld.

Hitchfinder.com With the age of that car, don't be surprised if no one carries one any more.

You're going to have to have a custom job done. A friend of mine had one put on a 82 Vett.

trailer hitch = death of a unibody. If you want it to never drive right again, put a hitch on it and tow something with it.

I have already put sfc on. Also im not looking at pulling anything really heavy with it just a trailer and a 4 wheeler maybe 1300 lbs. Im just looking mainly for ideas on how to do it now, i think its going to come down to a lot of measuring and matching up.

1300 pounds is WAY heavy for a firebird/camaro. I thought you wasnt supposed to tote around more than about 700 pounds max in a car with a unibody. Plus your transmission if stock isnt supposed to tow that much extra weight. Permanant damage isnt out of the question, especially if your going up a big hill or even just driving down a road and hit a big pothole.

Im not trying to shoot down the idea of a trailer hitch on a bird, just giving fair warning on a lesson many have already learned. Age alone makes these cars sag in ways almost unrepairable. And SFCs isnt going to help the fact the rear suspension could bust through the trunk.

I agree. Look at some of the car manufactures websites on new cars, look at towing capacity on a vehicle with a unibody versus one with a full frame. Huge difference as the full frame is built to take the abuse of towing. Your car definately has enough power to pull a 1400 lb load, but the body isn't going to handle the added stress very well, and will start to dislike you very soon after. Good luck.

Man, im glad you reconsidered.

I saw an 80's ford ranger 4x2 pickup that ran good according to the ad, sold for less than 500 bucks on ebay. And with its 4 cyl std your talking some good fuel economy. Thats what i would do, hit up ebay for an old beater truck.

It never hurts to have a beater truck on hand.

Quite true, you can get one with a straight 6 in it, for a fairly decent catch, and they last forever.
