88 S10 4x4 pickup issue

Hey guys,
As you can see i am new to the forum but here is the problem.
On my 88 s10 the speedo odometer and the temp gauge don't work.
it has the 4.3l motor in it. i am thinking that the reason the spedo and odometer doesn't work is because of the cable but i am not totally sure, and the temp sensor could be bad but again i am not sure. any ideas? The rest of the gauges work oil pressure is bouncey, volt is steady and gas gauge is fine.
I checked the haynes book i have but that didn't tell me much.
