Possible cancelling of AFMOTY 06

Due to a very poor turn out of entries this year so far (12), it looks like it wont be worth holding this event.
Want at least 30 entries to make it worth while.
So unless we get some more entered over the next few days i wont hold the contest.
It takes up alot of time and its just not worth my time with such a small amount of entries.

I just cant beleive with the amount of great builds and modellers on this forum we cant get a contest up and running to highlight the best builds over the last 12 months :shakehead

I'm not sure if my last project was completed in this year but I will check on up on this.

I'm working on mine but it would be a last minute entry, I'm a bit far from the end and I've kids everywhere that love to play with my dangerous tools :D

12 entries.... I know we've had a very high standard over the years but come on, as someone said, with all the stunning builds on the forum there would be a lot more entries. Be in for the fun guys!

I really do not understand the people. I can say that i'm not a quick builder (avg. 2 model/year) and here I see a lot of nice models. I cannot understand why people are not entering the contest

It'd be terribly dissapointing if this doesn't come off for lack of participation. There are plenty of great builds here, and they should all be entered - even not great! The whole idea behind the AFMOTY (in my mind) is less to crown the "best" model or modeler, but more to show what we can do, and to build the community aspect of this place. It's all a bit of fun, and is in my opinion, on of the many things that make this place so great.

The AF site will not accept my pictures, I have asked for help, followed the recommendations that did not work, asked for help again, and am still waiting for a response. I know it takes time and effort to put on a contest, but it also takes time and effort to enter. If mine gets enterered, if at all, then you won't here from me til last minute as I'm still working on it. However, I doubt it will be finished in time so at the moment I have resigned to the fact that I won't be able to enter again this year.

It also takes time to try and answer all the questions that people keep asking that are clearly in the rules.

No offense, but you must be doing something wrong. 640x480 is plenty big enough to see what's going on. For example, This pic is much smaller than the limit and there's lots of visible detail: (it's only 440x500, obviously not a car, but it's just for an example)

It's an old plastic Tamiya 1/35 from a set of 4. I think I paid 3 bucks for the whole set... I actually won a 1st place at Tamiyacon with this one. I guess Mr. Tamiya himself said it was one of his favorites that day.. or that's what they told me anyways.

As far as your rally pic goes, if you like, you can email it to me and maybe I can figure out what's going on with it [email protected]

I also had problem with resizing. But finally managed. my original was also something like 1Mb. But with Photoshop I could resize it to 640*480. I did a bit sharpening and saved it with 7 or 8 level qty.
The problem can be that the estimated size what photoshop gives is not the same as AF counts. You have to reach 73 or 72kb in PS to be able to upload to AF.

I actually won a 1st place at Tamiyacon with this one.

Worst-case, just upload the pic to image shack or any of the other free image hosts, and post the url in a PM to primeraman. That's all I did.

Right. And everyone is subject to the same "problem." This is part of the reason photos have to be uploaded to AF. So someone who can afford a ton of bandwidth won't have an advantage over someone who has to use imageshack of photobucket, or God forbid, AF. It's also a lot simpler for PMan, which is great, because he's already being awesome in running this for us.

Which problems are ya'll running into with uploading? Is your file size being denied, or are you having trouble actually performing the upload?

Same here for me. The gallery appears to be down. I`ve been trying to post a pic for the contest. Hopefully it is back up before the deadline for submission.

I was trying to help out Mark with his pics, but the gallery does work for me. I get upload errors everytime.

Honestly, I can understand your logic behind having everyone post their image on AF, but it seems like having a size limit is already putting things on a level playing field. Doesn't matter how much bandwidth someone has, that doesn't magically make someone's pic better if they're all the same file size..

To those of you that cant upload a photo from AF, just send me a link for the photo as this seems to be the only way we are going to solve this problem. Its going to be abit unfair on those that have already sent a photo that has been hosted on AF...But if your model is good enough, people should vote on it no matter who hosts it :sunglasse
I didn't know there was such a problem with the gallery....its something i'll have to look into for next years contest.

At the moment we are sitting on 25 entries....so a few more would be nice :naughty:
