Bought a PS3 last night

Dosen't live up to the hype! I bought the 60gig for $599 with one game, Resistance: Fall of Man. Not a bad game but obviously not worth $59. I'm taking the PS3 back today. It's a pretty cool system in regaurds of the technology that it comes with.. But I doubt I'd ever partion the hard drive, run linix, use it as a computer or burn blueray's. I might buy one if they come down to $399.

i want a 360 so bad, ps3 will be great, but it blows right now

A friend of mine spent like 4grand and bought as many ps3's as he could when they came out. Then he sold them all for 400-600 bucks more than what he bought them for when stores ran out. Needless to say he made some money. Smart IMO.

I JUST FUCKING RETURN A PS3 2 DAY AGO :banghead: . My big bro and I, we put money together and bought my lil bro a ps3 with 60gb, 599 and COD3 59.99. at the end its like 700 something, my lil want a fucking Wii. I went to best buy and return, after I return the guy in back of me, bought it :banghead: . I cant find a Wii no where, so I say fuck it I want spend money for my lil bro and now he want to be a bitch, so forget it.

The worst thing you can do right now gaming-wise is buy a PS3. I'm happy there was a lot of hype to the PS3, though. Everyone who tried making money off of the system got ripped off hard in my city. Buying it for $700 and shit.. and then selling for $500 because people do realise that the system might be limited for the time being, but not forever. I'll admit, I'm a huge Sony fan, I feel more comfortable buying their products. Hell, I've had my PS2 since I was in grade 7 or 8 and it still runs like a charm.

I'm just waiting for complaints about the system's functionality, but so far, I haven't heard of anything too bad. The PS3 doesn't suck, the price does, and the games currently blow. When they get Armored Core, Dark Cloud, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo 5.... I'll be all over it. The price should be down by then as well. As for now, I'm very content with my PS2. Pawn shops are selling them for $60 at the moment.

My brother got it the 1st day it came out and he has allready sold it, its junk!!! its finally catching up to the 1st x box. It is no comparison to the x box 360.

Agreed...they are comeing out with "gran turismo hd" on jan 1st which is basically like a high def. gran turismo 4 and also has way more cars. I also think rainbow six:vegas looks pretty sweet.

Grand Turismo HD Demo came out today. I downloaded it, and played it for about an hour and a half. It's nothing extreamly special. They added Drifting. I'm Downloading NBA7 right now. I'm going to wait a couple days before returning it. I wouldn't mind keeping it. But I don't even have an HDTV, so, even if I exploited the BlueRay compression error Sony F*cked up on, I still couldn't really do anything cool.. I could partition a dual boot to Linux and play all my computer games on the PS3 with the controlers. Which I might do before Formating the HD and returning it..

I havent seen a PS3 in person yet but from what I have seen I am not impressed...the 360 on the other hand is amazing...Gears of war is freakin SICK...I am addicted to that game right now...but I am sure that PS3 will be bad ass as soon as the developers get the new technology down. Right now I think they are having a really hard time using all of the hardware available to them on the ps3...

I've played the ps3 and wasn't terribly impressed. I own a ps2 but I can't see upgrading..

Mind you im a sega fan boy (die hard sonic fan) and I still bought a Nintendo wii over the ps3. Mind you wii + case of beer/bottle of Smirnoff + 3 friends = tons of fun!

Sure.. First lets talk about the hardware..

PS3 supports dual boots and multipal partitions (fat32 only). You can donload somthing called "Other Os" from the Playstation webiste. They don't give support out for it, but they do igknolage it and even provide a "how-to". Once loaded you can format the hard drive, partition the space for linux and vwala. Dual boot PS3/Linux. Once installed, Linux will boot every time untill you hold the power buttion down for 5 seconds, then it resets the "other os" software an will boot back into PS3. To get back into the Linux mode you have to change the boost sequence through the PS3 os.

Once you get redhat, unbuntu, whatever loaded you can connect through the internet via the Ethernet or Wifi (60gig only) and get all your drivers to support external hard drives, usb drives, keyboards, mice, printers, exc..

So far people have figured out how to mount external hd via USB upto 750gig, rip the data from PS3 games & Blueray to the hard drive. They have also figured out how to use the PS3 controller in windwows envierment for gaming, not much else.

I'm going to spend a some time tomarrow installing Unbuntu and trying to figure out how to run windows PC games on it. No one has figured out how to get into the Sony PS3 partrion and play around with the PS3os. It's pretty well hidden. It wont be for long. Allowing people to run linux on their PS3 is the LAST thing they should have done if they were concerned with privacy. They were stupid.. It will only be a matter or time. My goal tomarrow is to get on the internet, find drivers, get it to print, link to a usb external 250gig hard driver and maybee try and get Company of Hero's to load in vga mode.

As for Grand Turismo HD. The 668meg Demo verson is pretty basic. One screen, 19 cars. You can run 1 track in either time trial or drift mode. You start with one car and every time you beat the target time you open up the next car, it took me less then a hour to open everthing up.

Drifting is the same track as time trials, but the corners you 'attempt' to drift via the hand brake. When you come upon a drifting corner 9-10 empty black flags appeir on top of the screen, as you drift around the corners they fill up red. If you go into the grass, or spin you loose all your red flags (points). The track it broken into sections, I only played it for about 2 hours. I think I got #100'n somthing place with 3700 points on one lap.. Recrord is in the 7800 range. With practiace I could get up their. Insted I downloaded the NBA 07 demo (886megs). but havn't had time to play it..

i had a very bad experience with smirnoff watermelon once. My friends strictly drink watermelon so it's what we keep in our state store (erm fridge?)... and therefore thats what I drink but I have to chase it or it makes me vomit shortly after.

But otherwise I'm a huge vodka person :)


Btw I'll save you time on the running windows games. You can use cedega/wine on linux to run windows games on linux. However alot of the code in wine and cedega is assembler for interl/amd x86 platform. Therefore I'm going to bet you can't get many games running without and emulator for x86 first. You have to keep in mind that the linux's running on cell are for the power pc instruction set if I recall correctly.

I use linux and develop for it as a living. If you have any questions or problems let me know. It would be quite a feat at getting it to run.. but my final question is why would you want to? Maybe I'm wrong and they have some way to get it to run binaries for the intel architecture for those api implementations of windows but none that I am presently aware of.

If I decide to return them I'm going to get gran turismo hd and reserve rainbow six: vegas, most likely. Also how do I get demo games on it??

hdmi cables usually aren't cheap but check out monoprice.com they are like 5-6 bucks. I know best buy sells really expensive monster brand cables for like 50-60

I'm going to by the Elder of Scrolls: Oblivioun & F.E.A.R & Final Fanticy when they come out next year. I've played every Tom Clancy Rainbow Six game from the original back in 99. They all seem to blend together after a while. As for downloading Demo's you need to boot up into your PS3 OS, and setup the Network settings, and setup a Playstation 3 account from the 'Internet' Section. Then just connect to the Playstation 3 Store via the PS3 and download whatever Demo or games you wish. Don't get your hopes up with the Grand Turismo HD game, it's very limited, but cool.

I got my xbox 360 for 100 bucks plus 80 for a harddrive for it. I'm happy.I see no need in spending that kind of money for a system. I will however probably buy a Wii only because I have a secret love affair with Zelda.

Every time I play online I get disconnected which I dont understand b/c I'm using the eternet and my router works perfectly. I think I'm going to call sony about it soon. I was reading about F1, I didn't know it was available for download, I'll do that tonight.. I have probably only logged a total of 20 hours on my PS3. Someone told me Sony's online network play is terriable. They are suposidly still using the ps2 online network. I don't know much about it.

I've already beat Resistance: Fall of Man, on easy, now I'm playing the second campaine on medium with the new wepons.. Its turning out to be a better game then I expected.. It's pretty fun, but the game engine isn't anything special. I havn't gone online yet with it though.. I'll try that tonight too.

I played Restistance of Man online for about 3 hours tonight. Wow, thats hard.. I need to learn those map, spawn points, wepon areas exc. My screen name is the Scottsee if you want to do some team stuff.. I got bored and started downloading F1 racing, it's only like 28% of the 678megs. So I'll be surfing the net on my lappy for a bit.

I've heard the exact opposite. I dont know anyone that bought one that likes it. I have seen one played, I thought it looked lame as hell. The graphics are *maybe* up to the original xbox standard and the game play seemed super limited. Their sales boomed because they are so cheap and innovative, but I cant imagine that they will be popular for long at all. I mean, obviously die hard Smash Bros and Zelda fans will keep it going, but I cant imagine they will keep a strong following. Not to mention they will break your TV. :lol:

No bugs that I have found. Yeah, I played the F1, I really don't like it.. I've been playing alot of multiplayer online Resitance of Man.. Pretty fun..

Ya resistance is awsome, but did you try the other modes in the f1 game like turning on the damage, penalties, rain, and turing off the brake assist and stuff like that??

Ya you definately need and hdtv. Dont forget hdmi cables though. They make such a HUGE difference it's almost unreal. I'm now able to play on 1080i, if you know what that means.

i got ps3 too too. i got a 360 last year and got hooked on call of duty 2 and now i'm on CoD3, just blew it out on veteran [or whatever the hardest level was] and i was trying to remember to eat between online sessions. then i took the game back to blockbuster. i gave away my 360 a while ago. xbox is for all the kids that want to pay for online gaming.

i have to give it to 360 for voice over online right out of the box, but the bluetooth and WiFi out of the box along with free online play smoke that shit like snoop dogg.

I bought a wii a few weeks ago. I've been really busy with school and stuff so i haven't really been able to play too much. It's pretty awesome though. It's great to play with a group of people. I guess lazy people wouldn't like it, all my friends thought it was awesome. I haven't really heard too many complaints about it (or the fact that it's less than half the cost of the 60gig ps3).

ps3 had the best commercials, and advertisements. but aint no way in hell im paying 700 bucks for it.
i have good old reliable ps2 and regualr xbox. i wanna get 360, and maybe ps3 in like a yr or so, wen gran turismo 5 comes out. the wa i c it, most games for ps3 will b made for ps2 because of the cost, and the ones made for ps3 only will b for those that have ps3, and nothing else.
