With all of the new consoles out for the holidays, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii and the ever strong XBox 360, I thought they were too damn expensive and It's high time that I invest in PC Racing Sims. I have a list, so check it twice, and voice your opinion on the best games and the best games for their series.
rFactor for Formula 1, and all kinds of mods
GTR2 for Fia GT
Nascar Racing Season 2003 for Nascar
Live for Speed for IndyCar League and other mods
Live for Speed S2 for being one of the most awaited games
feel free to post any other games I missed. I put rFactor at the top of the list because I downloaded the demo...and I'm playing it with a keyboard. Thinking about the new G25...after I sell my car.

So far, I've played with a bit of rFactor demo, a bit of NR 2003 demo (driving with keyboard = FTS, for the suck) and I got GTR2 for christmas, nice game but still no G25 wheel. From my playing around I can say that all of these are great games and you need really good computers to get the best experience. I don't know what I think of rFactor from just the demo but GTR2 feels like I'm really on a track like Spa, driving a race-ready Mosler MT900. Now I really can't wait to get a wheel. When I fly from the track to the grass, my traction is different, it's not totally lost but it's mushy, like I could spin any second if I don't ease back onto the track, and when I lose control and crash (note: I think i have damage turned off) I try desperatley redlining and trying to get onto the track, and I hears rocks and dirt hitting my chassis, it's great. But I really need a wheel.
One thing I don't understand is why didn't 10tacle give us the 2005 or 2006 season? It comes with 2003 and 2004, so that's the first mod/carset I'm looking for. I really like the Mosler though. Hell I love it.

I haven't played any of the games you listed but I'll probably be checking them out now. I think the best racing game I've ever played is probably Forza...it kicks ass on so many levels!

You are in for a rude awakening then. So was I. Loyal GT4 player until It even left me wanting more realism, more speed. It's not like turning into a crack addict or anything bad like that, download some free demos and try it out. Only one I haven't played is LFS.
The great thing about racing sims are modifications. I just got brand new V8, Ferrari and BMW GTR soundpacks. So now the Mosler MT900R, Saleen S7R, Corvette C5-R, Ferrari 360 and BMW M3 GTR sound like the real deal. V8s rumble, Ferraris whine, BMW sounds a lot like Ferrari, I have to double check that but I'm very happy with my first mod.

Your topic kinda threw me off a bit. I was ready to throw down...
Yeah, the prices of the new consoles are ridiculous except for the Wii (which I may get) so I was thinking about going PC. I could use this as referencein the future when I get a graphics card...

i was a big fan of the gran turismo series, still am, but forza blew me away with the graphics, mods, cars(porsche not ruf, ferrari, and in forza 2 lambo)
but top five ever all serious, gran turismo 1, forza 1, nfs hot pursuit, mario cart 64, and finally nfs porsche uleashed. still surprised that they never made a ferrari unleashed.
for next gen tho, gt5, forza 2, i was playing some demo in circut city(some rally game it was good,ps3)
i think that ps3 is great buy wii is best bang 4 the buck, but controller is stupid in some ways, and xbox360 i think is great, probably at this point the best overall. htose are my opinions

Never played Forza, maybe someday.
The rally game you played was Motorstorm. It's probably the most fun game I've played, Until I got GTR2, because of the realism and the potential. Motorstorm was really fun but I'm still not buying a PS3.
I got a steering wheel! Now it was a very tough choice, and I almost blew mega money on the G25(half the cost of a PS3) but I didn't. It has a clutch which is great and it's a logitech so I trust it but here's why I skipped it. 2 reasons, It has a shifter that mechanically switches from six speed pattern to sequential, but I heard it might break if abused. It sounds like an accident waiting to happen, plastic and all. I also saved 200 dollars (150 if you know where to shop). I bought a MOMO black racing wheel with nice paddleshifters, good pedals (better than DFP) sequential shifter and excellent force feedback. All I could want more is to be shook around by a hydraulic seat. A lot of online racers use the MOMO and I like it. 110 from CompUSA so I was playing the day I decided to get one. Most stores ship the G25.

and helllll no i aint buying a ps3, not for like another yr at least. 360 will do good for me, forza2 will b only for it, so it's one of those ways they know they'll make money for 360. plus f2 looks amazing, i've seen comercials on speed channel, there's a tornament for it in february. i wnt get a ps3 till gt5 comes out.
o and if u get the chance, forza is good too, great graphics, damage, not as many cars as gt4, but better choices

Actually it's closer to 40.
I've been playing so much GTR2 lately and that's because I've been going for hot laps on one track (BRNO) with one car (Ferrari 360 Modena). I'm using the race sim central forum to ask for driving help and they helped me shave...going on 7 seconds off of my best time and now I'm fast. It's all about driving on a track a lot and knowing the best racing line.
It taught me how to brake and accelerate and I could learn what I was doing wrong, and not do it again!!

if gt5 peopel were smart, when u go into the nissan dealer, instead of 20 skylines in a row, just scroll to the skyline, than scrool down and u get a few different choices of skylines, click the one u want, then choose the color, and go have fun

I think lfs, rfactor, f1 challenge 99-02 and GTR2 are all great games, You guys should search youtube vids of these games because to me they are absolutely amazing, lfs to me blows my mind, it is reli quite amazing especially since lfs was first made by 3 people (dunno if it still is). crazy tho, playing with the G25 will enhance your experience as well as having a good computer. Just check the videos out you'll be really amazed.

I'm going to do that right away! thanks
as for GTR 2 I saw a trailer on my xbox 360 and I thought it was real at first but then it showed other gameplay, looks cool with the amount cars you can have in one race

I have the G25 and it is unreal....
I also have the bob earl chair to pair up with my LCD and it was worth the saving.... with GTR2 Its amazing.
but i have been playing RBR ALOT and its my favorite game.. really challenging.. I have the shifter set up as a hand brake so I pull down and go for slides!

I think Forza is good, Forza 2 will be great, but it still didn't make me want to stop playing GT4, I can't get enough of the Gran Turismo Games!! Forza looks too... well.... the tailights look too shiny to look real, okay GT4 is a bit pixelated but, in my opinion Forza tries too hard!

I don't know how many times I have to emphasize this...oh is this the first time?...anyway, this thread is not about Forza and GT4, it's about PC games. PC games cannot guarantee looking as good as console games yet but those game mentioned will probably NEVER feel like racing sims. What I mean is they don't have real factors like accurate tire temperature, pressures, aerodynamics in every millimeter of the game, in those games there's no blowing engines, no damage, is there fuel use where your laptimes and weight transfer gets better as you lose fuel? This thread is about RACING SIMS.
We need our own subforum!!! I just finished playing the GT HD demo on my friend's playstation 3 (with controller) and when you use soft slicks you can DRIFT...:puke:

So why on Earth you call the thread, Best racing games, period!! Not racing sims!!!! Besides, I play race games to have fun & do things I can't (legally) do on the road, if I want tyre temp, fuel usage etc I'll get in my car & go for a drive, not sit at my PC!!!!
(oh yeah, it probably isn't realistic, but GT4 has fuel depletion!!! As does the Formula One games!!)
PS I agree with GTHD demo, it sucks!!

The title isn't your guys favorite racing games either,it's about the world's best racing games, here's why they are not console games, because the developers make a fun AND EASY game for people to jump in and play. In sim racing, if you don't know how to drive something, you will without a doubt in my mind, will crash. It takes practice and tuning to do anything, and that is what real racing is all about. Now in my opinion, the best a game can be based on a theme is the closest it comes to that theme...wow did that come out of my mouth...simulation for the win!!!!

Not only can you drive better cars in PC games but you can setup them up as well, but compared to driving your car, think about the immersion factor of any game, immagine you're a pro race car driver in an important race that if you are an experienced sim racer, you can jump into and have fun, and all those things you can do to your car..almost everything you can do to race cars, actually probably ten times more then you think to race cars. The reason for that is because while driving is more important, driving the car, the car itself doesn't get stressed and overworked until it's at the limit 'hotlapping' so you tune the car, or your friends help you tune it to recieve more stress and even push it farther, faster.
I play these games because I can't do it in real life...yet...and some pros play it because they have in real life so they've mastered the cars.
