My Brother-in-law has a 2001 Chevy Lumina which has a Service Engine light on solid whenever he starts the car. He wants to know how to turn it off. He thinks he needs to do a procedure with the ignition switch but doesn't know how.
I have a Dodge RAM 1500 which has a CHECK Engine light that I can clear with my Hand Scanner but I don't know if my scanner will work on his Lumina. Any help as to turning it off will be appreciated. Thanks.

Well I'd get the code and correct it before clearing the code and yes a scanner that will work on the 96 up Dodge will capture codes and clear them on any obd11 car/truck.

Is there any difference between a Service engine and a Check engine light? Alan says that he thinks the Lumina also has a Check light. Thanks. John M.

Same thing the Lumina only has the one check engine lite relative to pcm problems.
