I was looking at buying this intake from EBAY
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-96-97-98-99-00-01-02-Cavalier-2-4-Cold-Air-Intake-Z2_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38634QQihZ012QQitemZ 220062525653QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
I know its not a real Cold air intake and just a WAI or Ramair
But for the price do you think its worth it? Anyone bought one of these? or does anyone have any other comments on it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt buy it mainly because of the price and its from ebay. you can never trust ebay quality. but if u wanna try it, go for it. but u might have just threw away $35 or so if it doesnt work. thats just my :2cents:

its not that its just an intake, its the point that the mounting bracket might not be in the right spot, the pipe might not fit right, the sensor hole might not be in the right spot, the sensor might not even fit in the given hole, and the filter is probaly garbage. but then theres the other side of it where everything might be fine. so like i said, its up to u, but if it doesnt work out, dont be bummed out.
btw...saying its just an intake is like saying that Ebay intakes works as well as an AEM basicly....:2cents:

Just check the seller's feedback, most of the time you don't need a mounting bracket anyway or you can rig up your own, On my 96 2.2, I had a civic intake on there from autozone with one of the generic filters they sell. It's going to filter and weather it doesn't flow as well as a K&N filter or not, it's still gonna let more air in then a stock intake system. But going back to the mounting bracket, sure you can say rigging up your own is cheap and ghetto or whatever you wanna call it but, that's what you get for paying $35. For the price, it's worth it.

I would deffinately go with one with a correct mounting bracket. I acidently lef the nut off mine one time and it fell and started arching on the battery and caused my car to die going down the road.

SEARCH....everyone wants cheap speed and yea if you want an intake, bent metal is bent metal/aluminum....it doesnt matter where the mounting bracket is....or if the temp sensor doesnt fit in the hole....hell you dont even have 2 plug the sensor in
its a cavalier, your not gonna break it by buyin junk from e-bay....but if you want a nice car, that you put time, blood, sweat, tears, and hard work into that is gonna look good....go with a kits that are made specifically for your car...
PS...i used to own a cavalier and i found a short pipe that bent in the middle....so i stuck a boot on 1 end and a filter on the other and for 25 bucks, i had an intake

Haha quit tryin to make him ruin his cavy... theres always the ebay way, or the right way. And if you ever plan on putting some serious mods on the car, you usually want to have good main parts, intake being one of those... What good is an engine that cant take enough air cuz the intake piping is leaking air, or the piping is small so it cant get enough in, or its not sending in enough fuel cuz you dont have the sensor plugged in to judge how much air is going into the engine, or the intake is too close to a tube so it burns a hole thru it and something starts leaking, and maybe by some chance that leak gets into your engine thru the ebay intake, and it ruins you motor. Theres just way to much stuff that can go wrong in a car to trust things that have no research and development. It may not concern you now cuz its just a cavy, but its really a good rule to follow, just in general. The cheap way or the right way... Haha not to scare you or anything, cuz sometimes there are great deals on ebay, but less often than not. Just my two cents.

its just an intake.....get it. You're not going to see a drastic change in power with a more expensive one. The only problem here is going to be fitment. The only way i wouldnt use this is if you're boosted.....i've seen the cap on the top of the filter tear off and get sucked into a compressor wheel.....other than that, i would use it on my car
MrR0b0t0
12-29-2006, 11:31 PM
Haha you not just read that? Fitment is a main thing, so is heat, size, a reliability. You buy turbo stuff for your GSR off ebay? You really shouldnt be ruining something that costs more than $5000 cuz you went cheap and bought stuff off ebay... Dunno when people will learn. Probabley do the same thing when they buy a house or something. Thats when i'll laugh when the F up something that costs over $100,000. =D

hey schister not tryin to start a fight or nothing, but all you talk about is boosting. Maybe he aint tryin to spend that much money, or maybe he doesn't wanna do it at all, so for goodness sake stop tearing people down and telling them that the only way to go is boosting. help them and suggest boosting but dont tell them that its th only way to go, its just getting really old cause all your posts seem to have sumthin to that nature in them.

i never said he should boost it, i'm was merely saying that i've seen a fair amount of those filters tear apart on a boosted car.....also how bad could the fitment be on an Ebay CAI?? I cant imagine the fitment is so horrible that you couldnt figure it out...save some money and make it work....its really not that hard
MrR0b0t0
12-30-2006, 05:17 PM
If it was a true CAI, which its not, fitment is the main concern, its not just a stright pipe from the TB to the fender. And if you try to save money and make it fit anyway, that takes some custom fabrication, which usually leads to leaks and what not. But, Ive already put in my 2cents, do it right, or pay for it later.

ok guys.. just got this intake today, and installed it just now.. took me all of 30mins..
If i had some proper instruction i could have done it quicker.. stupid stock air intake needed some love to be removed.. oh and the battery had to come out too.
But the intake fits perfect, its got all the right bends and holes.
So all i had to do was cut the grommet a bit so the ITS would fit, and i'll go out and buy a K&N filter this weekend.
The bracket lined up well and seems strong.
Ive seen some pics of older ebay intakes, i can see why people wouldnt want them.. but the one i got is alot better.. the mounting bracket looks stronger, its got some nice welds on both sides, and there are no other weld marks where pipe was joined.. my intake is all 1 piece bent tube.
It also made the car sound a little better.. next up exhaust.

Oh, and 1 more thing.. when i took out the old stock air intake there was oil inside, not alot.. but a small pool.. is that normal?
MrR0b0t0

Probabley not, are you sure it wasnt washer fluid? Cuz i think the washer fluid holder is connected to the stock intake at the bottem.

it was definatly oil. the oil was after the filter, so it must be coming from the engine side.. i'll keep a look out to see if oil gets into the new intake.. and if anyone else knows whats up lemme know.

Really its not normal for turbo cars to have oil in the charge pipes... Most of time it means turbo seals are blown.
As for your oil problems... Where exactley was the oil? If it was right by the TB then you will have some oil there but not a lot. You have to remember that you have that line coming from the valve cover to the intake pipe.

Really its not normal for turbo cars to have oil in the charge pipes... Most of time it means turbo seals are blown.
About 99% of the time that means the seals are blown...the other 1% of the time, something else is messed up on the turbo, but either way its not good to have oil in the piping. I had a turbo do that once, but it was because the oil i was running was too thin and on hard boost, it liked to slowly leak past the seals. I changed to a 10W-30 and it never happened again.
As for the SRT owner above, not to be a dick, but you sound like you have a lot to learn. It seems to me that most people who buy SRT's decide that now they're experts on boosted cars when in fact, that couldn't be further from the truth. I'm not saying that about you, but as a generalization of a few people that I know locally.
I need a disclaimer "not to sound like an ass or anything, but..."

no, its normal for the SRT 2 have a little bit of oil in the coldside piping because of the stock PCV hose....most people recommend getting a Catch Can for the stock PCV hose thats connected to the intake because it usually has some oil in it...

I would hate to see the inside of your intercooler then bud. I would really look into why its blowing oil into the charge pipes. That is not good! Crankcase pressure must be a bitch on those things. Gotta burn oil too. Stupid engineers. I would look at relocating that IF thats what the problem is.
You should never have to much oil in the intake pipes. It kills plugs and burns oil causing your car to smoke and eventually detonation. Trust me I KNOW. I also have a turbo car and its burning oil like a mofo. Either my rings or valve seals or BOTH. Stupid Conquest!
